KROHNE OPTIWAVE 6500 80 GHz Radar Level Transmitter for Powders
Description
Two-wire 80 GHz radar for silos, dust and low-reflective powders
The KROHNE OPTIWAVE 6500 is a two-wire, loop-powered 80 GHz FMCW radar level transmitter for continuous non-contact measurement of powders and granulates. KROHNE positions it for powders and dusty atmospheres, with a measuring range of 0 to 100 m (0 to 328 ft) and a best accuracy of +/-2 mm (+/-0.08 in). The flush-mounted PEEK lens antenna does not intrude into the tank, so material cannot build up on a protruding horn.
The manufacturer highlights a small 4 degree beam angle for the DN70 antenna, which helps in tall, narrow silos and hoppers, together with an empty tank spectrum function that filters false reflections from internals. Typical duties named on the product page are cement, lime, fly ash, plastic powder, milk powder, flour and coal dust, plus metals and minerals processing.

Where it is used
Choose it when dust, low reflectivity or internal obstructions make 24 GHz units unreliable. The page lists silos, stockpiles, conveyor belts, shafts, bunkers and crushers as measuring points, and a maximum level change rate of 60 m/min.
An optional 112 mm antenna extension suits long nozzles, and a purging system can keep the antenna clean. Tank Bottom Management is included so that an empty vessel still gives a stable reading.
Selecting the version
Specify antenna and seal material (EPDM, FKM or Kalrez 6375 are listed), process connection, housing, output and approval. As a derived example, a tall cement silo with dust points to the DN70 lens antenna with a flange sized to the nozzle.
The data sheet of this page is the TD for the OPTIWAVE 6500 C. Always confirm the complete device code, the hazardous-area marking and the SIL certificate against your plant documents before ordering.
Installation practice matters for any radar. Keep the antenna away from the filling stream, mount it on a nozzle that matches the antenna extension, and use the empty-tank spectrum recorded at commissioning so that weld seams and ladders are ignored. In very dusty silos the purging connection keeps the lens clean, and the data sheet gives antenna dimensions and weights for planning.
Documents and quotation
Quote requests are handled from this page: attach your tag list or the full code, and note the antenna, process connection and approval. The attached PDF (KROHNE OPTIWAVE 6500 C technical datasheet (EN)) is the reference for every value above, and it should be checked again for the final configuration. See also Level Instrumentation.

About brand
KROHNE is the German flow and level measurement company founded in Duisburg in 1921 as Ludwig Krohne & Sohn. Its first customers were Ruhr steel producers, for whom it built variable area flowmeters. KROHNE dates the first electromagnetic flowmeter for industrial process measurement to 1952. It is still family-owned and headquartered in Duisburg.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list KROHNE electromagnetic, Coriolis, ultrasonic and variable area flowmeters, radar level transmitters and flow computers, and supply them to water utilities, oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC by order code.
KROHNE company profile

The flowmeter principle follows the medium. Electromagnetic meters need a conductive liquid, have no moving parts and no pressure loss, and suit water and slurries. Coriolis meters measure mass flow and density directly, so they work for hydrocarbons and non-conductive liquids. Ultrasonic meters handle gas and large pipes, and multi-path designs such as the ALTOSONIC V12 are used for custody transfer. Variable area meters need no power at all and give a simple local reading.
Where KROHNE instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, KROHNE flowmeters and level transmitters are used in water transmission and distribution, desalination, wastewater, oil and gas production and fiscal metering, refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants, and power stations.
