Brand: Hughes Safety Showers
Hughes LAB-18GS/34G Laboratory Safety Shower with Eye Wash
Description
The Hughes LAB-18GS/34G is a floor mounted laboratory shower and eye/face wash in one powder coated stainless steel unit for light duty indoor use.
A complete laboratory emergency station on one stand
This combination unit pairs a pull handle shower with an open bowl eye/face wash that has twin spray nozzles and protective dust covers. The shower is designed to deliver 76 litres per minute and the eye wash 12 litres per minute, and the datasheet states the unit meets the European standard EN15154 for laboratories and ANSI Z358.1-2014.
The powder coated stainless steel construction protects against corrosive and flammable substances and is easy to clean when sterilising the laboratory. The eye wash is started with a push plate, so a casualty with burning eyes does not have to find a lid or lever.

Using it as the laboratory standard unit
Laboratories usually want one recognisable station per exit route. The ANSI summary asks for equipment within 10 seconds of the hazard on the same level, in a well lit and unobstructed position, and for weekly activation and annual service. Because the unit stands on the floor and has a simple pull handle, it suits corridors and bay ends where users already know where to look.
The stand is 815 mm deep, so leave a clear approach and keep the floor drain or gully near the base to take 76 litres per minute during the 15 minute test the standard describes. For a space with no floor room, the ceiling mounted LAB-23GS/V in the same family is the alternative.
| Hughes model | Configuration | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| EXP-18GS/45G | Floor mounted shower with ASA closed bowl eye wash | Indoor plants and workshops |
| EXP-20GS/45G | Floor mounted shower with body spray and eye wash | Indoor, extra lower-body rinse |
| STD-SD-31K | Multi-nozzle cubicle shower, GRP enclosure | Full-body drench with drain sump |
| LAB-23GS/V | Ceiling mounted laboratory shower | Space-limited laboratories |
Options and what to confirm before ordering
The product page lists a shower and eye wash sign as an option. Confirm the supply pressure, floor fixing, drain location, finish colour and whether the laboratory needs an eye wash only variant instead. As with the other unheated models, tempering of the water has to be provided separately if the cold main is outside the tepid range.
How the Hughes LAB-18GS/34G works
The unit connects to the water supply at the base. A pull handle opens the shower valve and water falls from the rose. A push plate opens the eye wash and two spray nozzles throw soft water jets to the face. The valves stay open until the user closes them, so both hands are free to hold the eyes open. Dust covers on the bowl keep the nozzles clean.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the LAB-18GS/34G
Fix the stand to the floor and connect the 1 inch male BSP inlet to the supply. Flush the pipe before connecting the unit. Check the flow of the shower and the eye wash and set the pressure reducing valve if the supply exceeds 6 bar. Run the station each week and service it each year.

Documents and quotation
Two Hughes documents are linked from this page: the English datasheet for LAB-18GS/34G and the installation, operation and maintenance guide for its family, both unaltered. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and prepares quotations for LAB-18GS/34G and related Hughes models once the request states the supply pressure, the floor and drain arrangement, and the standard the project specification calls for. More site safety equipment is listed under Safety and PPE.
