Precise electromechanical lubrication for single points

perma STAR VARIO is an automatic single-point lubrication system from perma-tec GmbH & Co. KG (Euerdorf, Germany). It consists of a re-usable electromechanical drive, a sealed STAR LC lubricant cartridge of 60, 120, 250 or 500 cm³ and a battery pack. Unlike gas-generating cartridges, the gearmotor and piston deliver the lubricant independently of temperature and counter pressure, so the discharge stays accurate in cold stores, outdoor conveyors and hot motor bays alike.

The system builds up 7.5 bar and is used for single-point lubrication of roller and sliding bearings, sliding guides, open gears, gear racks, spindles, shaft seals and chains. Because the metering is precise, it is also suited to electric motors where the bearing manufacturer specifies a grease quantity. The drive is bought once and re-used with each new cartridge.

Choosing the cartridge size and discharge period

Pick the cartridge size from the bearing or machine manufacturer relubrication quantity and the interval you want between exchanges. The display shows the discharge period, the cartridge size and the operating status, and the setting can be changed at any time, so a trial interval can be corrected after the first inspection. The flyer lists perma MULTI LC 150-2 (SF01) as an example lubricant; the lubricant you select must suit the bearing, the temperature and the NLGI class limit of the cartridge. Below -20 °C the lithium battery pack and a low-temperature lubricant are required.

Pressure build-up of 7.5 bar allows remote mounting up to 5 m, which moves the lubricator out of hot, vibrating or hazardous zones. The table shows where the other perma single-point models sit.

Installation and relubrication practice

The Quick Start Guide sets out three steps: define the installation and the connecting parts, prepare the lubrication point, then activate. Clean the point, remove the grease fitting, add sealant to the thread, fit a reducer, support flange or tube if needed, and pre-fill the point and any line with the same grease that is in the cartridge. Screw the control unit onto the cartridge until the arrows line up, select the cartridge size, weeks or months and the discharge period, remove the plug and note the exchange date on the label.
