perma NOVA Temperature-Compensated Single-Point Lubricator

Description

Electrochemical lubrication that corrects for ambient temperature

perma NOVA is described by perma-tec as the first temperature-independent electrochemical lubrication system. You enter a discharge period of 1 to 12 months on the NOVA Control unit, which then calculates the gas quantity needed for a constant discharge while taking the ambient temperature into account.

The system has a re-usable control unit, a NOVA LC cartridge of 65 or 125 cm³ filled with grease or oil, and a protective cover. It was developed for locations with considerable temperature variation, such as outdoor installations, and the 65 cm³ cartridge is suggested by the manufacturer for electric motors.

Why choose NOVA

Gas-generating lubricators discharge faster when warm and slower when cold. NOVA compensates this, so a 12-month setting stays close to 12 months on a yard conveyor that sees night frost and midday sun. It also gives a higher maximum pressure (6 bar) than FLEX and an integrated support flange. If you need an exactly metered quantity with no temperature influence at all, the electromechanical STAR VARIO is the next step.

The table shows where the other perma single-point models sit.

Model Volume Pressure build-up
perma CLASSIC / FUTURA 120 cm³ Max. 4 bar
perma FLEX 60, 125 cm³ Max. 5 bar
perma FLEX PLUS 30, 60, 125 cm³ Max. 5 bar
perma NOVA 65, 125 cm³ Max. 6 bar
perma STAR VARIO 60, 120, 250, 500 cm³ 7.5 bar
perma STAR CONTROL 60, 120, 250, 500 cm³ 7.5 bar
perma ULTRA 500, 1,000 cm³ Up to 50 bar

Fitting it

The Quick Start Guide: remove the protection cover from the LC unit, attach the control unit and screw it on until the arrows line up, select the period (1 to 12 months), remove the plug and note the exchange date. Remote mounting is possible with the push-lock hose connector and mounting parts listed in the guide, and the guide notes that one of the mounting positions is only possible in dry environments. See pumps and lubrication equipment.

How perma NOVA works

A single-point lubricator feeds grease or oil to a bearing slowly, so the bearing is lubricated at all times without a person visiting it. The perma NOVA uses an electrochemical reaction in a gas generating cell. The gas builds pressure and pushes the lubricant out of the cartridge. The re-usable NOVA Control unit has electronic temperature compensation, so the discharge period that you set, from 1 to 12 months, stays close to the real time even when the ambient temperature changes.

Where perma NOVA is used

  • Electric motors, using the 65 cm3 cartridge.
  • Outdoor conveyors and fans.
  • Pumps in the open air.
  • Bearings that are hard to reach.
  • Machines in places with large temperature swings.

Selection checklist for perma NOVA

  • Discharge period of 1 to 12 months.
  • Cartridge volume of 65 or 125 cm3.
  • Grease up to NLGI 2, or oil.
  • Operating temperature of -20 to +60 degrees C.
  • Maximum pressure build-up of 6 bar.
  • Protection class IP 65 with correct assembly.
  • Outlet thread of R1/4 outside.
  • Dimensions of 65 x 101 mm for the LC 65, and 65 x 132 mm for the LC 125.
  • Check the Ex markings on the flyer for hazardous areas.
  • Fitting of the support flange to the lubrication point.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Clean the lubrication point and fit the unit with the correct outlet thread. Enter the discharge period on the NOVA Control unit and start the unit as the instructions say. Oil-filled cartridges have an oil retaining valve, shown by the red plug. Check the unit at planned rounds, replace the cartridge when it is empty, and re-use the control unit with the new cartridge.

Requesting a quotation for perma NOVA

Send the bearing type, the lubricant, the ambient temperature and the cartridge size. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Temperature compensation

A gas-generating lubricator without compensation discharges faster in the heat and slower in the cold. The NOVA corrects this, which suits a yard conveyor with cold nights and hot afternoons.

Other single-point models

The perma range also has CLASSIC, FLEX, FLEX PLUS, STAR VARIO and ULTRA models. NOVA gives a higher pressure than FLEX, with 6 bar against 5 bar.

First discharge

The first discharge starts within one day after activation, so the bearing receives lubricant from the first day.

Lubricator records

Record the point, the lubricant, the setting and the date of each cartridge.

Choosing the right cartridge size

Choose the 65 cm3 cartridge for electric motors and small bearings, and the 125 cm3 cartridge where the bearing needs more lubricant or a longer interval. Check the bearing manufacturer for the amount of grease and the interval, then set the discharge period on the control unit to match. Use a lubricant that suits the bearing, the speed and the temperature, and do not mix incompatible greases in the same bearing.

Protection against dirt

The IP 65 rating with correct assembly protects the unit from dust and water jets in outdoor installations.

Documents and quotation

The manufacturer flyer for perma NOVA (Art. No. 114459) is attached to this page as a download. For a quotation, send the lubricant you want in the cartridge (grease or oil, brand and grade), the cartridge size, the discharge period, the ambient temperature range, the mounting position and whether the point is in a hazardous area. Please confirm the cartridge type and the approval marking against the manufacturer documentation for your exact order code before ordering; the figures on this page are taken from the flyer and are not a substitute for the operating instructions.

About brand

perma-tec is a German maker of automatic single-point and multi-point lubrication systems, founded in 1934 and based in Euerdorf.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list perma lubricators for maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

perma product series

Chemically driven lubricators include the perma CLASSIC 120 cm³ steel housing unit, the perma FLEX in 60 and 125 cm³ sizes, the perma FLEX PLUS with boost function and the perma NOVA, which compensates for temperature.

Electromechanical lubricators include the perma STAR VARIO, the externally powered perma STAR CONTROL and the high-pressure perma ULTRA with Bluetooth in 500 and 1,000 cm³. Multi-point systems include the perma PRO LINE six-outlet grease system and the perma ECOSY 7-litre oil system.

Chemically driven lubricators such as perma CLASSIC and FLEX use a gas-producing element to set the discharge period, while electromechanical STAR models deliver a set volume independent of temperature and can be monitored. perma PRO LINE and ECOSY supply several points from one reservoir.

Where perma lubricators are used

Bearings of motors, pumps, fans and conveyors, chains, slides and guides, especially hard-to-reach or hazardous points where manual greasing is difficult.

Ordering perma lubricators: what we need

Send the model and size, lubricant type and grade, discharge period, ambient temperature, number of points and power supply for electromechanical units.
