Timken Solid Lube VSL609 FVSL613 Bearing Lubricant
Description
Timken Solid Lube as a maintenance-free alternative to grease
Timken Solid Lube is a solid lubricant that fills the free volume inside a bearing and replaces grease or oil in harsh environments. The polymer grades are a micro-porous polymer structure enriched with high-performance oils and additives, and on average the lubricant holds three times more oil than conventional grease. During rotation the structure releases oil to the rolling elements and raceways, so the bearing does not need regreasing.
Timken describes the benefits as protection against washdown and contaminant ingress thanks to the full-fill and large oil reservoir, maintenance-free operation, lower operating costs, and food-grade options. Solid Lube is applied to Timken spherical, cylindrical and tapered roller bearings and to ball bearings, including the corrosion-resistant deep groove range.
Technical specifications
The engineering data table of the Timken Solid Lube brochure lists these grades. Temperature range is in degrees Celsius and NSF H1 indicates FDA-compliant food-grade registration:
| Code | Description | Lubrication type | Color | Temperature range (C) | NSF H1 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| VSL609 | Industrial polymer | Synthetic PAO and additives | Dark gray | -48 to 102 | No |
| FVSL613 | Food-grade polymer | Synthetic PAO and additives | White | -46 to 93 | Yes |
| FVSL528 | High-temperature food-grade polymer | Synthetic ester blend and additives | White | -31 to 176 | Yes |
| FVSL525 | High-temperature food-grade graphite | Graphite | Black | 0 to 232 | Yes |
| FVSL531 | Chemical-resistant polymer | Perfluoropolyether | White | -36 to 176 | Yes |
Graphite grade FVSL525 and the chemical-resistant grade FVSL531 may need a special closure and radial internal clearance for high-temperature operation, according to the brochure footnote. Speed may be limited by the maximum operating temperature of the Solid Lube.
Where Solid Lube is used
Typical food and beverage uses include bakery dough mixers and ovens, brewery bottling and filling lines, dairy processing conveyors, freezer spiral conveyors, meat processing overhead conveyors and rendering equipment. Industrial uses listed by Timken include fan bearings in high heat and humidity, marine solutions, glass processing equipment, mining and aggregate processing, steel mill equipment and wastewater treatment.
The graphite grade is injected into the free space of the bearing and heated until solid, which creates a free-rotating solid structure suited to challenging high-temperature environments where petroleum-based lubricants may fail. FVSL531 is aimed at heavy washdown with organic solvent-based cleaning products such as in dairy and pork processing.
When choosing a grade, compare the operating temperature, the cleaning chemicals, the speed and the food-contact requirement against the engineering table. Confirm the closure type and radial internal clearance with Timken for high-temperature grades, because the brochure notes that these may require special closures and clearance.
Documents and quotation
The attached Timken brochure summarizes benefits, science, grades and engineering data. Solid Lube is applied to bearings as a factory option, so quote requests need the base bearing designation with the Solid Lube code, for example a 6205H bearing with FVSL613. Other products are grouped under Electric Motors, Pumps and Turbines. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat that quotes against the designation and quantity you provide.

About brand
The Timken Company is an American manufacturer of bearings and power transmission products. Henry Timken patented an improved tapered roller bearing in 1898 and incorporated the company in St. Louis in 1899; it moved to Canton, Ohio, in 1901 and is headquartered in North Canton, Ohio. Timken is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and describes itself as the world's largest maker of tapered roller bearings.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Timken bearings, mounted units and lubrication products for maintenance departments and workshops in Oman and the GCC.

Ordering Timken bearings: what we need
Give the complete part number stamped on the bearing, including any prefix and suffix. Inch-series tapered roller bearings have separate numbers for cone and cup, so quote both. If the marking is worn, measure bore, outside diameter and width and tell us the machine and shaft position. For housed units give the housing type, shaft size and locking method. State the quantity and any precision class or special clearance required.
Facts checked against Timken's SEC filings and published company histories, October 2026.
