Tractel Tirfor T500 Manual Wire Rope Pulling Machine

Description

The Tractel Tirfor T500 series is a range of portable, manually operated machines for lifting, pulling, tensioning and securing loads with a wire rope that passes through the body of the machine. Three sizes, T508D, T516D and T532D, give working load limits of 800, 1600 and 3200 kg. Because the rope is not wound on a drum, the usable rope length is not limited by the machine, so the Tirfor is used for long pulls in construction, utilities, rail maintenance, rescue and forestry work. Tractel states that it invented the Tirfor winch in 1941.

How the Tirfor works and what you need to use it

A Tirfor needs three components: the machine, the Tractel wire rope and the telescopic operating handle. Moving the lever forward and back makes two jaws grip the rope alternately, so the rope advances in either direction with a defined travel per stroke. The machine has an overload limiter based on a shear pin that protects against overload and is easy to replace, and three spare pins are supplied. The unit has a QR code for product traceability and technical monitoring. The working load limit can be multiplied by using sheave blocks, and an anchoring hook is available as an option. Because rope and machine must match, only the specified Tractel rope diameter should be used in each model.

Selecting a Tirfor and what to confirm before ordering

Select from the load to be handled and the geometry of the pull. The working load limit is for a single line; when sheave blocks are used the rated pull is multiplied, and the anchor point and the sheave must carry the corresponding load. Choose the model whose rope diameter matches the rope that will be used and note that the rope is a separate item unless the unit with 20 m of rope is ordered. A lifting operation with a Tirfor for people or for loads overhead must follow national rules and an approved method statement, and the T500 technical sheet does not list EN 13157 compliance, whereas the Tirfor TU series does. Confirm the standard required by your project, the rope length, hooks or thimbles, the sheave block and the marking before quoting. Supplied documents include the manual and the CE certificate on the manufacturer page.

About brand

Tractel is a manufacturer of lifting and pulling equipment, load measurement instruments and working-at-height safety products. Its range includes manual and electric hoists, wire rope pulling machines, lifting clamps, dynamometers and fall protection, and the Tirfor wire rope winch dates back to 1941.

Lifting and load measurement

Typical Tractel lifting products include lever and chain hoists, Tirfor traction machines, electric hoists and plate clamps. Digital dynamometers such as the Dynafor family measure the load actually carried by a rigging set-up, which supports proof testing, overhead weighing and tension control.

Selecting equipment

Select by working load limit, lifting height, duty and environment, and confirm the applicable standard and marking before ordering. Each Tractel page lists the published capacities and links to the manufacturer technical sheet. Seven Star LLC supplies Tractel products against a stated capacity and standard, and quotes once the lifting duty is confirmed.

Rigging equipment must be selected, inspected and used according to the manufacturer instructions and local regulations, and load measurement devices should be checked against the capacity of the lifting set-up.

Frequently Asked Questions

What working load limits does the Tirfor T500 offer?
800 kg (T508D), 1600 kg (T516D) and 3200 kg (T532D).
Is rope length limited?
No. The wire rope passes through the machine, so the usable rope length is not limited by a drum.
What overload protection does it have?
A shear-pin overload limiter; three additional safety pins are supplied with the product.
What do I need besides the machine?
Tractel wire rope of the specified diameter and the telescopic operating handle.
Can the capacity be increased?
Yes, with sheave blocks, which multiply the rated capacity; the sheet lists block references E460, E470H and E480H.
