Pulsar IMP+ I.S. Intrinsically Safe Ultrasonic Level Sensor

Description

A self-contained intrinsically safe ultrasonic level sensor

The Pulsar IMP+ I.S. is a combined ultrasonic transducer and controller in one self-contained unit, certified intrinsically safe to ATEX EEx ia IIC T4 and IECEx. It uses a digital echo-processing technique and comes in three versions by range: IMP3 for 3 m, IMP6 for 6 m and IMP10 for 10 m. The wetted parts can be built in PVDF for corrosive or aggressive applications. With a 4-digit LCD, a 4-button keypad and a 4-20 mA output it can be commissioned on the tank with no separate controller.

Choosing IMP3, IMP6 or IMP10

Select by distance from the sensor face to the lowest level, within the minimum range of 200 mm (IMP3) or 300 mm (IMP6 and IMP10). Lower frequency gives longer range but a wider dead zone: 125 kHz for 3 m, 75 kHz for 6 m and 41 kHz for 10 m. Pulsar quotes the beam as under 10 degrees, so keep the beam clear of pipes, ladders and inlet streams. The PVDF alternative suits chemical tanks; ask for it when the medium attacks standard materials.

What to confirm before ordering

State the range version, thread (BSP or NPT), wetted material, whether the I.S. certificate (ATEX or IECEx) must match the exact unit, and the intrinsically safe supply or barrier for the 11 to 30 V loop. The photograph on this page shows the IMP6 version. A non-hazardous IMP+ and the IMP Lite are separate datasheets.

About brand

Pulsar Measurement designs, manufactures and supports flow and level measurement for water, wastewater and industrial applications. The company has operated since 1986, is based in Malvern in the United Kingdom with North American headquarters in Largo, Florida, and is part of the TASI Measurement group. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and lists its radar and ultrasonic level sensors and open-channel flow sensors.

Pulsar product range

The range includes ultrasonic transducers, radar sensors, controllers such as Ultra and Ultimate, and open-channel flow instruments such as MicroFlow and FlowCERT. Pulsar develops its patented echo-processing technologies in-house, and several products carry ATEX, IECEx or FM hazardous-area approvals. Typical jobs are wet wells, sumps, storage tanks, pumping stations and open channels at treatment works.

Ordering level and flow instruments

Give the vessel or channel dimensions, the measured medium, the required range and the area classification. For flow, state the channel shape and width. We match the sensor, controller and cable length against the datasheets before quoting.
