Trafag EXNT 8292 Ex Pressure Transmitter
Description
Thin-film Ex ia pressure transmitter with hydrogen-compatible option
The Trafag EXNT 8292 is an intrinsically safe pressure transmitter based on Trafag thin-film-on-steel sensor technology. Trafag describes it as offering long-term stability and accurate pressure measurement over a wide temperature range, and certifies it to ATEX, IECEx and UKEX for gas Zones 0, 1 and 2, dust Zones 20, 21 and 22 and mining.
It gives a 4 to 20 mA output on a 10 to 30 VDC supply. A hydrogen-compatible sensor version is available, and the EC79/2009 type approval from the German KBA is listed for hydrogen applications on selected connections.

The accuracy table in the datasheet gives a total error band over minus 25 to plus 85 degrees C of 2.0 percent FS for the 0.5 percent sensors and 0.5 percent FS for the 0.3 percent sensors, with a one-year long-term stability of 0.2 percent FS. These figures help when comparing the transmitter against a loop accuracy budget rather than only the headline accuracy at 25 degrees C.
Standard types and ordering
Trafag lists standard products with short lead times, with type codes such as EXNT0.4A, EXNT1.0A, EXNT10.0A, EXNT25.0A, EXNT100.0A and EXNT250.0A, each with a 0.5 percent accuracy, a G1/4 male connection and a DIN 43650-A plug. A 0 to 10 bar standard unit has an overpressure rating of 20 bar.
Other connections include G1/4 and G1/2 male and manometer threads, R1/4, 1/4 NPT and M18x1.5. Electrical options include DIN 43650-A, M12x1, MIL-C 26482 and Binder 723 plugs and shielded cable, with accessories for peak-damping elements, seals and a Zener barrier code ZEN28VDC rated 28 V and 93 mA.
Selecting and installing the transmitter
Check the electrical connection code before fixing the maximum media and ambient temperature, because Trafag ties the temperature limits to the connection type. For Zone 0 use, follow the marking for the metal connector versions and the guidance in the datasheet on plastic connectors, which are marked for Zone 1.
Pair the transmitter with a certified barrier or isolator, check the entity parameters against the Li and Ci values, and keep the 25 Nm mounting torque. For hydrogen service, ask for the hydrogen-compatible version and the matching connection code.

About brand
Trafag is a Swiss manufacturer of sensors and monitoring devices for pressure, temperature and SF6 gas density, founded in 1942 and based in Bubikon, Switzerland. Its pressure transmitters, pressure switches, temperature transmitters and thermostats are used wherever robust field instruments are needed, including shipbuilding, hydraulics, railways, large engines, water treatment and test benches.
Instruments for hazardous areas
For explosive atmospheres Trafag offers an Ex range that includes intrinsically safe pressure transmitters, submersible level probes, flameproof pressostats and Ex industrial thermostats, with ATEX, IECEx and UKEX certification depending on the model. These instruments suit oil and gas, chemical and marine installations where gas or dust zones must be respected.
Technology and range
The product range spans piezoresistive and thin-film-on-steel pressure sensors, electromechanical and electronic pressure switches, level sensors, temperature gauges, thermostats and accessories such as damping elements. Trafag publishes a datasheet, instructions and certificates for each product family, so zone, accuracy and connection data can be checked before ordering.
Sourcing through Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC supplies Trafag instruments to customers in Oman and the GCC and quotes against the model code, range and approval required.
