Brand:

Palmer Wahl DSPG Digital Pressure Gauge Data Logger

Description

A digital pressure gauge with data logger, alarms and optional transmitter

The Palmer Wahl Digi-Stem DSPG is a digital process pressure gauge in an IP68 stainless steel housing, designed and built in Asheville, North Carolina. It shows the real-time pressure on a 0.9 inch five-digit display and the maximum, minimum, average, delta pressure, alarm settings or internal electronics temperature on a 0.4 inch secondary display. Two accuracy options are offered, and an optional switch and transmitter module can run at the same time as the display and the logger.

The datasheet lists 12 continuous self-checks of the electronics and the sensor, including pressure above or below range, sensor disconnected or shorted, ambient temperature out of limits, unstable signal, power supply and memory problems. Any out-of-tolerance condition is reported by an error code.

Features

  • Two accuracy options: precision accuracy plus or minus 0.1 percent of full scale at 23 C, or reference accuracy plus or minus 0.05 percent of full scale from 0 to 50 C with an included 9-point NIST Certificate of Conformance.
  • Pressure range -15 to 15,000 psi depending on pressure type: relative gauge, absolute, compound, vacuum and barometric ranges.
  • Eleven pressure units: psi, bar, mbar, Pa, kPa, MPa, kg/cm2, inH2O, mmH2O, inHg and mmHg.
  • Built-in data logger for 1,000,000 time-stamped readings, with the Wahl data logger software on a USB flash drive for download to an MS Excel file.
  • Visual alarm backlight: red for high alarm, blue for low alarm and green for normal operation, all adjustable.
  • Bottom connection or the adjustable angle mounting option, which the datasheet calls an industry first for digital pressure gauges.
  • Optional built-in switch and transmitter, user selectable 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 5 V, powered by a customer-supplied 24 V DC loop supply.

Mounting, ports and what is included

Bottom connected units use a round M12-8 analog connector for the optional transmitter and switch; adjustable angle units use a hex connector, and an M12-4 digital port serves the data logger. The datasheet states that the package includes a quick start guide, the data logger software on a USB flash drive, a custom-fit foam-lined box suitable for returning the unit for calibration, and the user manual as a download.

When the unit is powered by battery and an alarm condition is met, the matching backlight lights for 1 second and the HAL or LAL icon keeps blinking until the alarm clears. When externally loop powered, the alarm backlight stays on, and the green backlight is continuous in normal operation.

Selection and installation

  • Choose reference accuracy if you need the 9-point NIST certificate at three temperatures, and precision accuracy for general process work.
  • State the pressure type (gauge, absolute, compound, vacuum or barometric) and the full-scale range when you enquire; the datasheet leaves port size and range to the build-to-order process.
  • Add the transmitter and switch module only if you can provide a 24 V DC loop supply; the datasheet requires it, with a battery kept for display backup.
  • Pick bottom connection for a fixed pipe tap and adjustable angle when the gauge must be read from an awkward position.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

The datasheet lists processing plants, chemical and petrochemical, oil and gas, field calibration, mobile calibration labs, calibration service companies, gauge repair facilities, test benches and OEM use. For the Gulf this means a rugged, sealed digital gauge for plant maintenance teams, instrument workshops and calibration laboratories that need a logged record.

Selection and installation notes

A digital process pressure gauge is selected from the pressure range, the process connection and the wetted material. Check that the enclosure rating suits the area, set the alarms and the logging interval at commissioning, protect the gauge from pulsation with a snubber where needed and replace the battery on schedule. Download the log before the memory is full.
