Mason Super W Molded Rubber Vibration Isolation Pad

Description

Molded rubber pad for noise breaks under pumps, chillers and HVAC equipment

The Mason Super W pad is a ribbed (waffle) molded vibration pad used under machines that need “some” isolation or a noise break, or where a resilient friction pad removes the need to bolt equipment down. The standard full sheet measures 18 in. x 18 in. x 3/4 in. (450 x 450 x 20 mm) and consists of 81 modules of 2 in. (50 mm). The modules are joined by a thin web that is easily cut, so installers can make pads of any whole number of squares such as 2 x 2 in., 2 x 4 in., 4 x 4 in. or 6 x 8 in.

Mason describes pads as suited to reducing noise, high-frequency vibration and impact from machines such as chillers, compressors, HVAC units, vent sets, pumps, motor generators, transformers, diesel generators, punch presses, lathes, saws, power presses and drill presses. They are an economical choice in basements and other non-critical areas, and are not a substitute for spring isolators where low frequencies must be controlled.

Mason notes that the Maxi 4 x 4 x 1 in. values are estimates prior to tooling and testing.

Sizing a pad

Divide the total load by the capacity per square at the chosen durometer and round up to the next whole number of squares. Mason gives an example: a 650 lb load on 40 durometer 2 x 2 in. squares rated at 120 lb gives 5.42, so six squares are used, arranged as 2 x 3 modules (4 x 6 in.) or 1 x 6 modules (2 x 12 in.). Using additional squares gives more conservative loading. Distribute the squares evenly under the equipment base so each carries a similar share.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the load per support point, the compound (natural rubber, neoprene or bridge-bearing neoprene), the durometer and the pad size. For equipment that needs a controlled deflection, consider a spring or neoprene mount such as the Mason ND double deflection neoprene mount. Other products are listed under Vibration Isolation.

About brand

Mechanical consultants write Mason Industries type letters straight into their vibration isolation schedules. The company, founded in 1958 and based in Hauppauge, USA, makes vibration isolation and seismic control products. Seven Star LLC lists the Mason SLFH free-standing spring mount with bolt-down baseplate and supplies Mason isolators for building services plant in Oman on inquiry.

Mason SLFH spring mounts

The SLFH is an unhoused spring mount: the spring is free-standing and laterally stable without a housing. A neoprene cup or a 6 mm neoprene acoustical friction pad sits between the baseplate and the supporting structure, and the leveling bolt is fixed rigidly to the equipment. Mason builds single-spring and multiple-spring versions with 1 inch and 2 inch rated deflection, and higher deflection series.

Ordering Mason isolators: what we need

Send the full type and size designation from the schedule, the load at each support point, the required static deflection, the equipment type and speed, and the fixing details for the baseplate. Where GCC project specifications ask for submittal data, we provide the manufacturer sheet showing spring diameter, deflection, compressed height and solid height.
