KTR REVOLEX KX Flexible Pin and Bush Coupling

Description

Pin and bush coupling for high torque and shock-loaded drives

The KTR REVOLEX KX and KX-D is a torsionally flexible pin and bush coupling for large drives. KTR positions it for applications with high torques and shock loads: it is robust, fail-safe, compensates every kind of shaft displacement and can be plugged together axially. Steel pins carrying elastomer bushes drive between two flanged hubs, so there is no metal-to-metal contact and the bushes damp torque peaks.

The values below are from KTR operating and assembly instructions KTR-N 49410 EN (edition 16), covering type KX with taper bolts and type KX-D with taper pins, both in design B.

Choosing between KX and KX-D

Type KX uses taper bolts and covers sizes 75 to 265 in a compact envelope. Type KX-D uses taper pins, extends the range to size 650, and reaches the highest rated torques in the family: more than 1,000,000 Nm at the largest size. Both types carry the torque on elastomer bushes, so the rated values apply to the bushes only. KTR points out that the transmittable torque of the shaft-hub connection must be checked separately by the user.

Some sizes need a drop-out centre dimension to remove the bushes and pins, which is flagged by an asterisk in the KTR tables. Check this against the space between the machines before ordering. Large and fast-running sizes require dynamic balancing; the maximum speeds in the tables assume balanced couplings.

Installation and use in explosive atmospheres

KTR lists the pin sizes with their tightening torques, from 67 Nm for the smallest pins to 970 Nm for pin size 6, and a separate table of setscrew torques for the hubs. Bores must stay inside the maximum finish bore, because oversized bores can tear the hub. For explosive atmospheres the instruction defines temperature classes T5 and T6 with the ambient limits above. Alignment must keep radial and angular displacement within the speed-dependent table, with only half the values allowed in explosion group IIC.

About brand

KTR is a German manufacturer of shaft couplings and related drive components, based in Rheine. The company was founded in 1959 and its products are used in machine building, pumps, power transmission, hydraulics and heavy industry. Seven Star LLC lists KTR coupling ranges with the technical data from the manufacturer operating and assembly instructions.

KTR product ranges

KTR couplings cover torsionally flexible jaw couplings such as ROTEX, curved-tooth gear couplings such as BoWex, steel laminae couplings, bellows couplings for servo drives, fail-safe shaft couplings and flange couplings for pump drives. KTR also makes clamping elements for keyless shaft-hub connections, along with brake systems and hydraulic components.

Because the instructions state values for rated torque, maximum torque, speed and shaft displacement, they help engineers compare coupling types and sizes before ordering, and they describe correct assembly and alignment as well.

Documents and quotation

Each KTR product page links to the manufacturer instruction with dimension tables, torque ratings and displacement data. Send the shaft sizes, torque, speed and operating conditions with your request, and Seven Star LLC will prepare a quotation from its base in Muscat, Oman.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between KX and KX-D?
KX uses taper bolts (sizes 75 to 265); KX-D uses taper pins and extends to size 650 with much higher rated torque.
What are the bush materials?
Standard material is NBR (Perbunan) with 80 plus or minus 5 Shore A, according to KTR-N 49410.
Does it need balancing?
Yes. KTR notes that dynamic balancing is required for the maximum speeds listed in the tables.
What displacement can it absorb?
Axial plus or minus 1.5 mm on sizes 75 to 95 up to plus or minus 4 mm on the largest sizes. Radial and angular values reduce as speed rises.
Which temperature classes does KTR state?
T5 for ambient temperatures from -30 °C to +75 °C and T6 from -30 °C to +60 °C, with surface temperatures of 95 °C and 80 °C.
