Janitza UMG 96RM Panel Power Analyser RS485 Modbus

Description

The Janitza UMG 96RM is a compact panel-mounted power analyser in a 96 x 96 mm front frame, used to measure and display voltage, current, power and energy in low-voltage three-phase networks. It is the basic device of the UMG 96RM series and has an RS485 Modbus RTU interface for connection to energy management and SCADA systems.

An accurate multifunction meter for the panel front

The device samples at 21.33 kHz at 50 Hz and measures voltage to 0.2 % accuracy and active energy to class 0.5 (and 0.5S with ../5 A transformers), as listed in the datasheet. Voltage harmonics are recorded up to 2.5 kHz and the unit supports energy metering with seven tariffs in four quadrants, according to Janitza. Two semiconductor outputs can be used for energy pulses up to 50 Hz or as switching outputs, and the display has a backlight rated for 40,000 hours.

It fits a standard 92 x 92 mm panel cut-out, needs only 42 mm of depth behind the front frame, and weighs 265 g. The front is IP40, or IP54 with the optional seal, and the rear is IP20. Two supply options cover 90 to 277 V AC / 90 to 250 V DC and 24 to 90 V AC/DC, so it can be powered from the measured circuit or from a control supply.

Choosing the right UMG 96RM variant

The basic device has no Ethernet and no digital input. Janitza offers related variants with Ethernet, memory or extra communication, so confirm the interface you need before ordering. Use external 5 A or 1 A current transformers for higher currents and protect the supply as specified in the datasheet. For heavier power quality recording look at the Janitza UMG 508, and browse controllers and data acquisition.

About brand

Energy managers and electrical engineers know Janitza for the UMG series of measuring devices found in main distribution boards and substations. The German company, founded in 1986 and based in Lahnau, concentrates on energy measurement and power quality monitoring. Seven Star LLC lists the Janitza UMG 508 and supplies Janitza power quality analyzers and their accessories to plants and building operators in Oman and the GCC.

Janitza UMG 508 and the UMG series

The UMG 508 is a panel-mounted power analyzer with a color graphic display. It measures the electrical quantities of a three-phase system continuously, records harmonics up to the 40th order and supply events in its own memory, and passes data to energy management or SCADA software over Ethernet and RS485. Modbus and Profibus DP are among its protocols, and Janitza GridVis software is used to set it up and read it out.

Ordering Janitza devices: what we need

Give the Janitza item number or the full type from the rating label, since one UMG model can be made in more than one supply voltage version. Add the auxiliary voltage in the panel, the measured system voltage, current transformer secondary (1 A or 5 A), the protocol your software uses, and any current transformers or residual current sensors to be quoted with it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the UMG 96RM used for?
It measures and displays voltage, current, power and energy in low-voltage three-phase networks and reports them over RS485 Modbus RTU to energy management or SCADA systems.
What are the supply voltage options?
A 230 V option for 90 to 277 V AC or 90 to 250 V DC, and a 24 V option for 24 to 90 V AC or DC.
