Grandstream GWN7660 Wi-Fi 6 2×2:2 Indoor Access Point

Description

The Grandstream GWN7660 is an enterprise 802.11ax Wi-Fi 6 indoor access point with dual-band 2×2:2 MU-MIMO, DL/UL OFDMA, 1.77 Gbps aggregate throughput, 500+ concurrent clients and two Gigabit ports with PoE/PoE+. It runs controller-less: an embedded controller in its web interface manages up to 50 local GWN access points, while GWN.Cloud and GWN Manager scale beyond that.

Coverage is up to 175 metres in open conditions, per the datasheet, and maximum consumption is 9 W.

A medium-density Wi-Fi 6 access point without a controller

Many sites do not want a dedicated wireless controller appliance. The GWN7660 puts the controller on the AP, so one access point running the embedded controller manages the others, and larger estates move to the free GWN.Cloud or the on-premise GWN Manager (up to 3,000 APs). Features aimed at voice and real-time traffic include advanced QoS, 802.11e/WMM, mesh, captive portals and seamless connection with Grandstream Wi-Fi phones. For offices, schools, hotels and clinics it provides 32 SSIDs (16 per radio) and up to 500+ clients per AP.

Features from the datasheet

  • Dual-band 2×2:2 MU-MIMO with DL/UL OFDMA; 1.77 Gbps aggregate throughput
  • Up to 175 m coverage; 500+ concurrent clients; 32 SSIDs, 16 per radio
  • WEP, WPA/WPA2-PSK, WPA/WPA2 Enterprise (TKIP/AES), WPA3
  • Two auto-sensing 10/100/1000 Base-T ports; PoE 802.3af/at with automatic power adaptation

Where it sits in the GWN range

The GWN7660 is the Wi-Fi 6 2×2:2 indoor model. For 4×4:4 Wi-Fi 5 look at the GWN7630, and for in-wall rooms the GWN7624. The datasheet specification of 1.77 Gbps is the sum of 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 573.5 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, a derived figure; real throughput depends on client capability, interference and distance, which the datasheet notes.

Mounting and network planning

The kit allows wall or ceiling mounting. Feed it from a PoE switch (802.3af is enough at 9 W), put management on a separate VLAN, and plan channels so neighbouring APs use different 5 GHz channels at 20 or 40 MHz in dense sites. Place APs below ceiling tiles or in open view, not above metal, so the antennas have clear line of sight.

Use in GCC buildings

Typical installs are offices, schools, clinics, hotel corridors, retail and warehouse offices. Metal-clad plant rooms and thick concrete in villas reduce range sharply, so plan by survey rather than by the 175 metre open-space figure. The unit is indoor only.

PoE budget (derived): the 9 W maximum consumption means ten units draw 90 W and fifty units, the embedded controller limit, draw 450 W at the switch. User load (derived): 500+ clients per unit is a capability figure, so size by real concurrent users and applications, not by this number.

Selection and installation notes

Plan a wireless network from a site survey, not from the data sheet range alone. Walls, floors and metal structures reduce coverage, so place access points at the centre of the area they serve, away from obstacles, and set the channels and power so that neighbouring units do not interfere. Confirm the PoE standard and the switch budget, the number of clients and the management platform, and change the default passwords at commissioning.

Information needed for a quotation

Send the full model code, the quantity, the delivery location in Oman or the GCC, the intended use and any accessories needed, so that the complete package can be quoted together.

Documents and supply information

The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with the project specification and the site risk assessment before a purchase is confirmed. Ratings, standards and dimensions are quoted as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.
