Overview

The Brüel & Kjær Vibro AS-062/050/0 (Bruel-Kjaer AS-062/050/0) is a piezoelectric acceleration sensor with constant current supply (CCS) for permanent vibration monitoring on rotating machinery such as turbines, pumps and compressors. It uses the compression principle, in which a piezo-ceramic disc and an internal mass form a spring-mass system.

In the AS-062 order code AS-062/aaa/b, “050” denotes a 5.0 m integrated cable and “0” denotes no protective conduit. The AS-062 is not the Ex version; B&K Vibro offers the ASA-062 (ATEX) for hazardous areas.

B&K Vibro AS-062 Ordering Code and Options

The order code has the form AS-062/aaa/b. The three-digit group is the length of the integrated cable: 050 = 5.0 m, 100 = 10.0 m, 150 = 15.0 m and 200 = 20.0 m. The last digit is the cable protection: 0 = none, 1 = steel protective conduit. The conduit option is only offered on the 5 m and 10 m lengths.

AS-062/050/0 is therefore the 5 m version without conduit. The scope of delivery is the sensor, two threaded studs (M8 × 14 and M8 to 1/4 in-28 UNF) and the documentation, so the same sensor fits either a metric or a UNF tapped hole.

The manufacturer warns that strong electromagnetic fields can affect the reading and recommends a grounded steel protective conduit for the sensor cable in that case, which is a reason to choose the /1 version in electrically noisy locations.

B&K Vibro AS-062 Installation and Wiring Notes

Wiring is two-wire plus shield: red is signal/constant-current supply (4 mA nominal), white is COM/0 V. The supply is polarity sensitive. Mount on a flat, machined surface of at least 28 mm diameter with an M8 × 1.25 or 1/4 in-28 UNF hole 12 mm deep. Apply a thin film of silicone grease to reduce contact resonance, keep the stud engagement in the sensor to 5 mm or less, and tighten to 3.5 Nm. Any mounting orientation is allowed. The usable measuring range falls to ±20 g if the supply is only +18 V.
