AEG Protect RCS SPRe/TPRe Rectifier and Battery Charger

Description

A thyristor-controlled DC system for batteries and DC loads

The AEG Protect RCS SPRe/TPRe is a floor-mounted, thyristor-controlled industrial rectifier and battery charger. AEG Power Solutions describes it as a DC system that charges nickel-cadmium or lead-acid batteries while supplying DC loads, and it can also run as a direct DC power supply without a battery. SPRe is the single-phase version and TPRe is the three-phase version.

The rectifier is built from independent building blocks, so distribution boards, diode droppers and other items can be fitted inside the cabinet or in a separate one. The datasheet lists typical use in power generation, transmission and distribution, oil and gas, petrochemical and chemical plants, heavy industry, mining and transportation signalling. Built-in battery management includes temperature-compensated charge voltage regulation and manual or automatic high-rate charge.

Standard system and option list

The standard system has a 6-pulse rectifier bridge with input isolation transformer, an internal input switch, a digital control card, a blocking diode, a multi-function LCD with two status LEDs, tropicalised control boards and low-smoke halogen-free wiring. Cooling is natural up to 50 A. The cabinet has a 180 degree door with a three-point key lock and bottom cable entry.

AEG Power Solutions lists a wide option range: parallel redundant operation with load sharing, special mains voltages from 180 to 690 V, 12-pulse rectification, 1 % and 0.1 % ripple filters, battery and load protection, diode droppers, DC distribution, automatic transfer and changeover systems, relay cards, additional meters, battery cell and ground fault alarms, and a protection system to limit hydrogen emission. Communication options include RS232/RS485 Modbus, TCP/IP and protocol converters for Profibus DP, DNP3 and IEC 61850.

Selecting a rating and what to confirm before ordering

The ratings table spans single-phase and three-phase versions across 24, 48/60, 110/125 and 220 VDC, with single-phase output up to 100 A and three-phase up to 1,200 A. Dimensions and weight are given only as “according to range” in this datasheet, so confirm them against the quotation drawing.

Before ordering, confirm the battery type (NiCd, lead-acid or gas-recombination), the DC voltage, the load and charge current, the mains voltage and frequency, the required IP degree, the alarm and communication options, and the site temperature and altitude for derating. For substations a dedicated T and D version of the TPRe also exists, which is covered by its own AEG datasheet.
