AEG Protect RCS TPRe TD Battery Charger for T and D

Description

A compact battery charger optimised for substations

The AEG Protect RCS TPRe TD is a three-phase, thyristor-controlled battery charger whose design is optimised for transmission and distribution (T and D) applications. It charges nickel-cadmium or lead-acid batteries while supplying DC loads, and it can be connected to an inverter to deliver a safe AC supply.

The charger sits in a very compact floor-mounted cabinet that can be equipped with optional electrical and mechanical items to meet most T and D specifications. Batteries are mounted in free-standing racks or cabinets. All chargers and options are identified by part numbers, which AEG Power Solutions says reduces lead times.

Standard configuration and options for T and D specifications

Standard features include a 6-pulse rectifier bridge with input isolation transformer, an internal input breaker, the GCAU digital control card, an output filter with ripple below 2 % rms without battery, a DC output isolation switch, output DC cable drop compensation and a multi-function LCD with two LEDs. Cooling is natural for most ratings, with forced cooling at the higher current and voltage ratings. Customer cables connect to terminals with bottom entry.

Options include three DC distribution breakers with spare capacity, a blocking diode for paralleling, 1 % and 0.1 % output filters, battery reverse polarity protection, battery output with shunt and fuse, a battery protection box, relay cards, extra analog meters, temperature charging compensation, RS485 Modbus RTU, TCP/IP, an IEC 61850 protocol converter, cabinet light and heater, and lifting eyes.

What to confirm before ordering

The weight table shows that cabinet weight and cooling method change with voltage and current, for example forced cooling on higher-current units. Confirm the exact rating, cooling type and weight on the quotation drawing, along with the required IP degree and the protocol needed for the substation SCADA.

This page covers the dedicated TD version. For the general-purpose three-phase and single-phase range with ratings up to 1,200 A, the Protect RCS SPRe/TPRe is the relevant AEG product. The datasheet is a brochure and AEG states its data is non-binding until concrete commitments are made on enquiry.
