AEG Protect 8 PLUS Industrial UPS 10-120 kVA
Description
An industrial double-conversion UPS with a full-IGBT rectifier
The AEG Protect 8 PLUS is an industrial UPS rated 10 to 120 kVA, described by AEG Power Solutions as an extension of its proven Protect 8 AC UPS family. It combines double-conversion topology with an IGBT rectifier, giving an input power factor of up to 0.99 and input current distortion (THDi) of 5 % or less. With an external stand-by battery it supplies critical loads in industrial environments, and AEG states an expected lifetime of at least 20 years.
A bi-directional rectifier-charger can perform battery discharge tests back into the input mains, so no external load bank needs to be rented. A patented pre-charge circuit limits inrush current, which AEG says can reduce the size of upstream transformers, breakers and cables. The unit meets the Joint Industry Programme JIP33 specification S-701 from IOGP.

Features built for process industries
Full-IGBT architecture with the latest IGBT generation, hot-swappable fans with optional N+1 fan redundancy, built-in output galvanic isolation as standard and optional input galvanic isolation are listed. The UPS has high output short-circuit clearance and a full set of electrical and communication options. The Protect 8 building-block design is used so customisation requirements are easier to meet.
AEG Power Solutions lists oil and gas exploration and production, petrochemical and refining, transport infrastructure, water treatment, continuous manufacturing and other heavy industry as typical applications. Front access to all major replaceable components supports maintenance.
Selection and what to confirm before ordering
Select by kVA rating, single-phase or three-phase output and DC voltage. The datasheet shows 384 Vdc only for three-phase output units rated 30 kVA and above. Dimensions are given as “according to rating and system configuration”, so confirm them on the quotation drawing together with battery type and autonomy, required IP degree and bypass supply.
If JIP33 compliance matters for the project, request the supporting declaration for the exact configuration from the manufacturer. For compact monoblock units with an inverter transformer, the Protect 8 S14 is the related model; the S10 is the building-block model with wider voltage choices.
