AEG Protect RCS mSPRe Compact Rectifier and Battery Charger

Description

A compact single-phase rectifier for small DC systems

The AEG Protect RCS mSPRe is a compact thyristor-controlled industrial rectifier and battery charger with single-phase 220/230/240 V AC input. AEG Power Solutions developed it to give a high-reliability DC supply and battery charging in a very small design, for applications including oil, gas and petrochemical, power generation, transportation and other infrastructure.

It uses microprocessor-controlled thyristor technology and suits charging nickel-cadmium or lead-acid batteries while supplying DC loads. The small system includes the functions of a modern rectifier to protect the load, optimise battery life and communicate with its environment. Front access eases installation, start-up and maintenance.

Standard system and options

The standard system is a single system with an internal input switch, a 6-pulse rectifier bridge with input isolation transformer, a digital control card, an L1-C1 output filter, a rectifier fuse and shunt, tropicalised control boards, a common fault alarm, battery temperature sensor, labelled power and control cables and an IP21 cabinet in RAL 7035. The multi-function LCD with two LEDs shows system status.

A battery tray for NiCd SBLe 7.5/15/30, SBM/SLM 15/30 and UP1M24/30 batteries is included only on the 24mSPRe10 model. Matching mBAT1 and mBAT2 battery cabinets are available for larger batteries. Additional options are an RS232 and RS485 interface, up to three 10 A B-curve load MCBs with auxiliary contacts, a relay card with eight contacts and predefined alarms, and a blocking diode.

Choosing the model and what to confirm

Pick the model by battery voltage and current: 24 V at 10 A or 25 A, 48 V, 60 V or 110 V at 15 A. Connections are top or bottom on the 24mSPRe10 and top on the other models. The mSPRe brochure is dated 01/2015, so confirm current availability, battery cabinet matching and options before ordering.

Also confirm the battery chemistry and capacity, whether the integrated battery tray is needed, and the AC supply tolerance on site. For larger currents or three-phase supply, the Protect RCS SPRe/TPRe range is the next step in the AEG Power Solutions rectifier family.
