Dodge Eccentric Collar Ball Bearings, SXR SXV Pillow Blocks
Description
Eccentric collar mounted ball bearings with a quarter-turn lock
The Dodge Eccentric Collar mounted ball bearing line secures the inner ring to the shaft with a self-locking eccentric collar. The collar is turned a quarter turn in the direction of shaft rotation and held with a single set screw, which Dodge positions for applications that need simple shaft attachment, shock-load capability and options for contamination protection. The units can run in both forward and reverse rotation. The most current design is the SXR line, built in Dodge’s ISO 9001:2015 certified bearing plant in Rogersville, Tennessee, according to the catalogue.
The range spans light-, normal- and intermediate-duty series, plus Harsh Duty configurations, in pillow block, flange, take-up and hanger housings, so one locking method can be kept across the plant. Typical uses named by Dodge are roller and belt conveyors, sortation systems, pallet handling, warehousing and agriculture.

Part numbers shown are standard-grease P2B-SXR pillow blocks; each can be ordered sealed for life by adding -NL, and the SXRU variant gives a higher back for interchange with other pillow blocks. Capacities and allowable equivalent radial loads are catalogue values in pounds. The catalogue formula for life is L10 = (C / P) cubed multiplied by 16,667 / N hours, and it recommends adding up to 50 percent to the equivalent radial load for heavy shock or vibration. A thrust load of C/10 is a suitable guide for general applications.
Ordering code and options
The nomenclature reads housing, bearing type, shaft size, then modification, for example P2B-SXR-104-NL. Shaft size is written in sixteenths of an inch (104 is 1-4/16, or 1-1/4 inch), and metric sizes end in M. Modifications include E for expansion, FF for DualGuard Plus seals with flingers, HT for a high temperature option to 400 degF, LL for a low torque labyrinth seal, NL for never lube, and RL for relube. SXR and SXRB units are end-cap ready, with OSHA-yellow snap-in covers available in closed and open styles. Harsh Duty versions add QuadGuard triple-lip seals, a patented Maxlife cage and Mobilith SHC PM 220 synthetic grease.
The Dodge Mounted Bearings brochure prints an interchange guide that lists P2B-SXR-* against Link-Belt P3-Y2*N, SKF SY shaft-size WF and Timken Fafnir RAS shaft-size units. Brand names belong to their owners and are used only to identify those products. Confirm before ordering: shaft size and tolerance, housing style, duty class, seal and grease options, and environment.
Selecting between SXR, SXV and SLX
The series differ in duty class, inner ring width and housing material, so the choice starts with the load and the shaft. Use the ratings table to compare the dynamic capacity and allowable load of each ring series with the equivalent radial load of your application, and apply the catalogue life formula with your actual speed. Where heavy shock or vibration is expected, increase the equivalent load as the catalogue recommends before choosing the size. The stamped-steel SLX housing suits lighter duty, while the cast iron housings of SXR and SXV are intended for normal and intermediate duty. If the application already uses another make of pillow block, the interchange guide in the brochure helps identify a matching Dodge unit, and the SXRU variant addresses differences in base-to-centre height.
Application context
Roller and belt conveyors, sortation systems, pallet handling, warehousing and agricultural equipment typically run long shafts on many identical bearing positions. Keeping one locking method and one housing family across these machines simplifies maintenance planning and stocking. The eccentric collar suits drives that run forward and in reverse, and the Harsh Duty configuration is the option to review where dust, moisture or washdown are part of daily operation.
Mounting and commissioning considerations
Check the shaft size and tolerance before mounting, since the locking method relies on a correct fit between shaft and inner ring. Align the housings carefully: the static misalignment allowance helps during installation, but the bearing is not intended to accommodate dynamic misalignment in service. Engage the eccentric collar a quarter turn in the direction of shaft rotation and secure it with the set screw as described in the catalogue. Where relubrication applies, use the grease type stated in the specifications and follow the catalogue guidance on intervals; never-lube units are not intended for regreasing. After start-up, observe running noise and temperature during the first hours of operation.
How to specify your RFQ
Give the full nomenclature if known, for example housing, bearing type, shaft size and modification, or the Dodge part number from the table. Otherwise state shaft size, duty class, housing style, any required modification such as never lube or high temperature, the operating speed and load, the environment and the quantity per size.
