The SKF SNL 513-611 is a split cast iron plummer (pillow) block housing from the SNL 2, 3, 5 and 6 series. It has a 120 mm bearing seat, an overall length of 275 mm and a mass of 6.5 kg. SKF describes SNL housings as the most popular on the market, developed for design quality and economy, enabling the bearings to reach maximum service life with less maintenance and, through a range of seals, keeping lubricant in and contamination out.

The housing is made in two halves so a bearing can be fitted or replaced without dismantling the shaft ends. It is used with spherical roller bearings, self-aligning ball bearings and CARB bearings on adapter or withdrawal sleeves, on pumps, fans, blowers, conveyor shafts and general industrial machinery.

Which bearings and shafts fit this housing

The SKF brochure product tables show the SNL 513-611 for two shaft sizes. For a 60 mm shaft it houses bearings such as the 22213 EK on adapter sleeve H 313, and for a 50 mm shaft the 22311 EK on adapter sleeve H 2311, in both cases with the same 120 mm seat. Two locating rings are used in a locating position; the tables give FRB 10/120 for the 22213 series and FRB 4/120 for the 22311 series. The seal kits are listed as TSN 513 and TSN 611 in versions L, A, C, S and ND; the brochure identifies a labyrinth ring by the suffix S and a taconite seal by the suffix ND.

On a CARB or spherical roller bearing in a non-locating position, the shaft can move axially, so the choice of seal needs to allow for that movement; the brochure limits axial shaft movement for some seal types, such as taconite seals.

Fitting, lubrication and what to confirm

The housing is held down with bolts of recommended diameter 16 mm tightened to 200 N m, and the cap bolts are M12x65 tightened to 80 N m. Two dowel pins, 252 mm apart with a 29 mm axial offset, position the housing on the base. A grease fitting AH 1/8-27 PTF is included, and the initial grease fill is 100 g at 20 percent and 160 g at 40 percent of the free space. The housing is painted to ISO 12944-2 corrosivity category C2.

For external loads the product page gives breaking loads: 270 kN at 0 degrees if the base is not fully supported, 340 kN at 55 degrees, 205 kN at 90 degrees, 150 kN at 120 degrees, 130 kN at 150 degrees, 170 kN at 180 degrees, and 110 kN axially.
