Brand:

Bently Nevada 330100-50-00 3300 Proximitor Sensor, 5 m

Description

330100-50-00: 3300 Proximitor Sensor, 5.0 m system, no approvals

The Bently Nevada 330100-50-00 is a 3300 Proximitor Sensor (the non-XL generation) for a 5.0 m (16.4 ft) proximity transducer system. It conditions the signal from a 3300 5 mm, 3300 8 mm or 3300 XL 8 mm probe and extension cable into a dc-plus-ac voltage proportional to gap, for vibration and position channels on fluid-film bearing machines.

Decoded with the 330100-AXX-BXX table, 50 is the 5.0 m system length and 00 means agency approvals are not required.

Principle of the 330100-50-00

The sensor sends a radio-frequency drive to the coil in the probe tip and measures how a conducting target loads that coil. Its output is a negative dc voltage proportional to gap, 7.87 mV/µm (200 mV/mil), which carries both position (the dc level) and vibration (the ac component). The 330100 includes an integral isolation plate as its base, so no separate isolator plate is needed in the mounting.

330100-50-00 as a spare for installed 3300 systems

Because this is the earlier sensor generation, the usual reason to order a 330100-50-00 is to keep an existing 3300 channel running without changing cabling, mounting or monitor configuration. The sensor accepts the same probe and extension cable family as before and keeps the known 200 mV/mil scale factor.

The probe and extension lengths must total 5.0 m, as in the 3300 XL 8 mm range: for example a 1.0 m probe with 4.0 m extension, or a 5.0 m probe on its own. If the machine is being refurbished, the XL sensor 330180-50-00 is an alternative, but the manufacturer notes that mixing XL and non-XL components limits performance to the non-XL figures.

Related parts and family overview for 330100-50-00

The ordering table for the 3300 Proximitor Sensor has only two length codes, 50 and 90, and two agency codes, 00 and 05. Matching parts are the 3300 XL 8 mm probes (330101 to 330106 families), 3300 5 mm probes (330171, 330172) and the 3300 XL extension cable 330130. The XL Proximitor Sensor, 330180, is described as electrically and mechanically interchangeable with this non-XL sensor and recommended as best available technology, but mixing XL and non-XL parts limits performance to the non-XL specification.

Part number System length Agency option
330100-50-00 5.0 m (16.4 ft) Not required
330100-50-05 5.0 m (16.4 ft) Multiple approvals
330100-90-00 / 330100-90-05 9.0 m (29.5 ft) Not required / multiple approvals

Selection and ordering checklist for 330100-50-00

  • Read the nameplate of the installed sensor and confirm it is 330100-xx-xx before ordering
  • Confirm the 5.0 m total length and that the probe is a 3300 5 mm, 3300 8 mm or 3300 XL 8 mm type
  • Confirm approvals are not required (otherwise 330100-50-05)
  • Check whether an XL replacement is preferred and whether monitor settings change
  • Confirm the supply is -24 Vdc nominal and within the allowed range
  • Check for existing barriers, which change how supply voltage is set

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the 330100-50-00

Mount the sensor on its isolating base in the same footprint as the unit being replaced, land the field wires and join the extension cable. The probe system is interchangeable, so no bench calibration is required, but the scale factor is set to AISI 4140 steel unless ordered otherwise.

Verify after replacement by measuring gap voltage at the monitor, which should sit near the original value, and by performing a simple shaft movement test.

  • Store spare sensors dry and away from vibration
  • Record the original gap voltage before replacement
  • Keep tip-to-tip probe spacing at about 40 mm axial and 74 mm radial for the non-XL system to hold cross-talk down
  • Connector-to-connector torque is finger tight; do not use tools on XL gold connectors
  • Probe and cable must not be pulled beyond rated tensile strength

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC the 330100-50-00 is mostly encountered as a maintenance spare on 3300-based machinery protection systems in oil and gas plants, power stations, desalination units and petrochemical facilities. These plants often run original 3300 channels installed years ago, and keeping the same sensor model avoids loop re-engineering.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.

Where Bently Nevada systems are used

In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.

Ordering and replacement: what we need

For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.

FAQ

Questions about the Bently Nevada 330100-50-00 3300 Proximitor Sensor,

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What does 330100-50-00 mean?
It follows the 330100-AXX-BXX pattern. A = 50 means 5.0 m system length; B = 00 means agency approval not required.
02Is the 330100-50-00 the same as the 330180-50-00?
No. The 330100 is the non-XL 3300 Proximitor Sensor; the 330180 is the 3300 XL version, which the manufacturer lists as electrically and mechanically interchangeable but with better performance.
03Which probes work with the 330100-50-00?
The sensor accepts one 3300 5 mm, 3300 8 mm or 3300 XL 8 mm probe with extension cable, with total system length 5.0 m.
04What are the range and scale factor?
The linear range is 2 mm (80 mils), from 0.25 to 2.3 mm, with an incremental scale factor of 7.87 mV/µm (200 mV/mil) ±6.5% typical.
05What supply does it need?
-17.5 to -26 Vdc at a maximum of 12 mA. Operation more positive than -23.5 Vdc can reduce the linear range.
