A 5 kW single-phase inverter with two MPPTs and a 7.5 kWp array limit

The Sungrow SG5.0RS is a 5000 W single-phase string inverter in the SG5.0/6.0RS series. It has two independent MPPT inputs, each carrying one string by default at up to 16 A, and a recommended maximum PV input of 7.5 kWp, so it is the natural step up from the 3 to 4 kW SG3.0RS family when a larger array or higher consumption is involved.

It keeps the family traits: a 10 kg body, natural cooling, IP65, plug-and-play connectors, integrated AFCI, Type II DC and AC surge protection, smart PID Zero, C5 corrosion rating and one-click iSolarCloud access. Maximum efficiency is 97.9 percent with 97.3 percent European efficiency.

Common data

SG5.0RS or SG6.0RS?

The two models share hardware; the 6 kW model allows a 9 kWp array and 27.3 A maximum AC current, the 5 kW a 7.5 kWp array and 22.8 A. Because both use the same 6 mm2 plug-and-play AC connector, check voltage drop and the breaker rating against the higher current. Notes under the datasheet table give the 4999 W and 21.7 A values required under AS 4777.2, which matter only for those grid codes. Contact us if a three-phase supply is available; the SG10RT-P2 may then be a better fit.

Installation and operation notes

Install on a wall bracket in shade or under cover, using the 410 x 270 x 150 mm footprint, and keep to the printed -25 C to 60 C ambient range. DC and AC connectors are plug-and-play types. The inverter reports every 10 seconds to the iSolarCloud platform, and the DI port supports ripple control and DRM where a grid operator requires them. Use the manual for string design within 40 to 560 V.

Where the SG5.0RS is used

Typical use is a larger villa, small clinic or workshop roof on a single-phase supply, up to 7.5 kWp. Natural cooling avoids fan wear in dusty air but removes forced cooling margin, so ventilated mounting and shading are important in summer. Check that the inverter model is accepted by the local utility.

Selection and use notes

Design the string layout from the module data so that the voltage and current stay inside the inverter window over the temperature range at the site, mount the unit with the clear space the manual requires for cooling and check the AC cable, the protection devices and the local grid connection rules before ordering. Keep the commissioning record for the warranty file.
