A 50 kW four-MPPT string inverter in the SG36/40/50CX-P2 series

The Sungrow SG50CX-P2 is the largest of the SG36/40/50CX-P2 string inverters: 50 kW rated, 55 kVA maximum apparent power, four independent MPPTs and up to 70 kWp of recommended PV input. It shares a datasheet with the SG36CX-P2 and SG40CX-P2, and all three use the same 645 x 575 x 245 mm enclosure.

Sungrow quotes 98.5 percent maximum efficiency, a 34 percent lighter body for easy handling, 15 A DC current input compatible with 500 W-plus modules, plug-and-play buckle installation, IP66, C5 anti-corrosion and AFCI 2.0, with built-in PID recovery and smart IV curve diagnosis.

Choosing 36, 40 or 50 kW

The 36, 40 and 50 kW models differ in output rating and recommended array (50.4, 56 and 70 kWp) while sharing the same housing. Check the AC cable size, which moves from 16-35 mm2 OT lugs to 35-50 mm2 OT or DT lugs at the top of the range, and the 83.6 A maximum output current when sizing breakers. As with other CX models, optimizer compatibility should be discussed with Sungrow before ordering.

Installation and operation notes

Wall-bracket mounting with the buckle design keeps installation simple for one or two people, at 40 to 41 kg. Cooling is smart forced air, so provide clearance. Commissioning is through Bluetooth and the app; RS485 is fitted and WLAN or Ethernet are optional. Use the user manual for the full-load MPPT voltage range and string design.

Where the SG50CX-P2 is used

It suits mid-size commercial and industrial roofs where 50 kW blocks are repeated, for example warehouses and factory sheds, and arrays of up to 70 kWp per inverter. The printed 60 C ambient limit and C5 rating suit hot sites, and DC Type I+II surge protection helps where lightning exposure is a concern. Confirm utility approval for each country separately.

Installation and selection notes

Design the string layout from the module data so that the voltage and current stay inside the inverter window over the temperature range at the site, and plan mounting with enough clear space for cooling. Check the AC cable size, the protection devices, the communication method and the local grid connection requirements before ordering, and keep the commissioning record for the warranty file.
