Brand: KROHNE
KROHNE OPTISONIC 8300 Ultrasonic Flowmeter for Hot Gas and Steam
Description
Two-path ultrasonic flowmeter for superheated steam and cryogenic gas
The KROHNE OPTISONIC 8300 is a two-path ultrasonic flowmeter for gases under extreme conditions: superheated steam and hot gas up to +593 C (+1100 F) and cryogenic gas down to low temperatures with the OPTISONIC 8300 LT variant. Pressure can reach 200 barg (1465 psig), and the full-bore carbon steel sensor has no moving parts, wear or pressure loss.
Accuracy is better than 1 percent of measured value above DN150, and the data sheet gives +/-1.5 percent for DN100 and a repeatability below +/-0.2 percent. An optional integrated flow computer calculates mass flow and enthalpy to IAPWS-IF97 from external pressure and temperature inputs, which supports energy balancing. OPTICHECK technology allows on-site verification.

Where it is used
Named uses include turbine and boiler performance, steam allocation in chemical plants, custody transfer of steam where permitted, and boil-off gas in LNG loading. Cryogenic uses include air-separation cold boxes and general cryogenic gas handling.
There is no periodic maintenance or recalibration claimed in the product highlights, and the Ex d certified 316L connection box suits plant environments.
Planning the installation
The converter measures volume, enthalpy and mass at constant density, and pressure and temperature signals from the plant improve the mass result. Give the steam or gas composition, pressure and temperature ranges, line size and flange standard.
The hosted TD is dated 2015 (R02), so ask for the current revision and certificate list. A derived reminder: insulation of hot pipes and the permitted ambient temperature at the converter must be checked at design stage. Steam lines should be installed with condensate drainage so that wet steam does not disturb the ultrasonic signal, and a long straight run before the meter improves repeatability in disturbed flow profiles. Commissioning normally includes entering the line size, wall thickness and the expected gas properties, and checking the signal quality indicators reported by the diagnostics before the meter is released for billing or energy balancing.
Wiring and documentation matter on steam and cryogenic duty: record the line size, wall thickness, gas data and the pressure and temperature signals at commissioning, and keep the OPTICHECK verification report with the meter file. Where the meter is used for energy balancing, agree the allowed uncertainty with the plant operator before the order is placed.

About brand
KROHNE is the German flow and level measurement company founded in Duisburg in 1921 as Ludwig Krohne & Sohn. Its first customers were Ruhr steel producers, for whom it built variable area flowmeters. KROHNE dates the first electromagnetic flowmeter for industrial process measurement to 1952. It is still family-owned and headquartered in Duisburg.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list KROHNE electromagnetic, Coriolis, ultrasonic and variable area flowmeters, radar level transmitters and flow computers, and supply them to water utilities, oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC by order code.

The flowmeter principle follows the medium. Electromagnetic meters need a conductive liquid, have no moving parts and no pressure loss, and suit water and slurries. Coriolis meters measure mass flow and density directly, so they work for hydrocarbons and non-conductive liquids. Ultrasonic meters handle gas and large pipes, and multi-path designs such as the ALTOSONIC V12 are used for custody transfer. Variable area meters need no power at all and give a simple local reading.
Where KROHNE instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, KROHNE flowmeters and level transmitters are used in water transmission and distribution, desalination, wastewater, oil and gas production and fiscal metering, refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants, and power stations.
