EV225B 20: a PTFE-diaphragm solenoid valve for steam up to 185 C
Danfoss 032U3806 is an EV225B with a 20 mm orifice and G 3/4 connection. The data sheet describes the EV225B as a servo-operated 2/2-way valve for steam applications, using a PTFE diaphragm concept that stays reliable with contaminated steam. The body is dezincification-resistant brass and the seats are stainless steel, which Danfoss states gives a long life even in highly aggressive steam.
Kv is 5 m3/h and the operating differential pressure runs from 0.3 to 10 bar. The valve is normally closed. The medium temperature range of -10 to 185 C is the reason this valve is used for steam humidifiers, sterilisers, laundry and food-processing equipment.

The coil decides the temperature rating
In this family the coil is not a minor accessory. With a BQ coil the valve is rated for AC voltage and steam up to 185 C. With a BN coil it is DC up to 160 C, and with a BB coil AC up to 160 C or DC up to 140 C. Selecting the coil is therefore part of selecting the temperature class, and a wrong coil can overheat.
The valve itself is limited to an ambient temperature of 40 C, and the clip-on coil enclosure reaches IP65 according to the data sheet. Install the valve with the coil above the pipe to prevent condensate from collecting around it, and do not insulate the coil.
Steam practice and ordering notes
Use a strainer and a steam trap in the line, keep the pipe free of condensate pockets and open the valve slowly during commissioning to avoid water hammer. Our figures of 20 ms for opening and closing are the store estimates for water and are not a guide for steam performance.

Steam systems are unforgiving about condensate, so fit the valve in a horizontal line with the coil on top, add a trap upstream, and insulate the pipe but not the coil. Replacement of the PTFE diaphragm is a normal service item after many cycles; the store lists spare parts for the valve. Keep a spare diaphragm kit and the correct coil on site for plants that depend on steam for production.
Always confirm with Danfoss documents that the chosen coil and the steam temperature match; the temperature limits quoted for BQ, BN and BB coils differ.

About brand
From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them.
