Brand: KROHNE
KROHNE OPTIBAR PSM 2010 Hygienic Electronic Pressure Switch
Description
Electronic pressure switch with IO-Link for hygienic duty
The KROHNE OPTIBAR PSM 2010 is an electronic pressure switch with transmitter functions for hygienic level and pressure applications in food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants. A fully welded front-flush diaphragm of 1.4435 / 316L gives a crevice-free, cavity-free connection, and the integrated display with two-button setup shows pressure and switch state.
Standard IO provides a PNP/NPN switching output plus IO-Link, and a second output can be 4 to 20 mA, 0 to 10 V or PNP/NPN. Measuring accuracy is 0.35 percent, the housing is IP67, and a display module can be rotated for reading. Optional cooling fins allow continuous process temperatures above 150 C.

Typical uses
The manufacturer names pressure and hydrostatic level measurement of viscous, crystallising and foaming media, dry-run protection of delivery pumps, and aseptic processes. Digital temperature compensation gives stable output over the process temperature range.
The VDMA-style menu and IO-Link communication allow parameter storage and device replacement without manual re-entry, which is useful in plants with many identical switches.
Compared with a mechanical pressure switch, an electronic unit with a display lets the operator read the actual pressure and adjust the switching points without a pressure source, and the transmitter output feeds the same value to a controller. This reduces the number of instruments on a hygienic skid and the number of connections that need cleaning.
Ordering guidance
Select the hygienic connection (clamp, Tri-Clamp or VARIVENT), pressure range, fill fluid, seal and output combination. As a derived example, a dairy tank of 6 bar uses a clamp DN50 front-flush adapter with FDA oil.
The attached file is the technical datasheet for this model. Confirm the exact pressure range, the output option and the cleaning cycle temperature against your process before ordering.
In hygienic plants the front-flush connection must be fitted with the matching gasket and cleaned according to the CIP schedule. The manufacturer gives a maximum process temperature of 150 C without cooling fins, so steam sterilisation cycles need to be reviewed against that value, and the IO-Link master settings can be stored for fast replacement.

About brand
KROHNE is the German flow and level measurement company founded in Duisburg in 1921 as Ludwig Krohne & Sohn. Its first customers were Ruhr steel producers, for whom it built variable area flowmeters. KROHNE dates the first electromagnetic flowmeter for industrial process measurement to 1952. It is still family-owned and headquartered in Duisburg.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list KROHNE electromagnetic, Coriolis, ultrasonic and variable area flowmeters, radar level transmitters and flow computers, and supply them to water utilities, oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC by order code.
KROHNE company profile
| Established | 1921, Duisburg, Germany, as Ludwig Krohne & Sohn |
|---|---|
| Early products | Variable area flowmeters for hardening furnaces in the Ruhr steel industry |
| Milestone | 1952: first electromagnetic flowmeter for industrial process measurement, according to KROHNE |
| Product families | Electromagnetic, Coriolis, ultrasonic, vortex and variable area flowmeters, radar and guided radar level, flow computers and metering systems, analysers |
Milestones
- 1921: Ludwig Krohne starts making variable area flowmeters in Duisburg for hardening furnaces in the Ruhr steel industry.
- 1952: First electromagnetic flowmeter for industrial process measurement, according to KROHNE.
- 1980: First ultrasonic flowmeter delivered to Shell for crude oil measurement.
- 1985: Development and production of Coriolis mass flowmeters begins.
- 1994: First Coriolis mass flowmeter with a single straight measuring tube.
- 1996: ALTOSONIC V, the first ultrasonic meter for custody transfer of liquids.

The flowmeter principle follows the medium. Electromagnetic meters need a conductive liquid, have no moving parts and no pressure loss, and suit water and slurries. Coriolis meters measure mass flow and density directly, so they work for hydrocarbons and non-conductive liquids. Ultrasonic meters handle gas and large pipes, and multi-path designs such as the ALTOSONIC V12 are used for custody transfer. Variable area meters need no power at all and give a simple local reading.
Where KROHNE instruments are used
In Oman and the GCC, KROHNE flowmeters and level transmitters are used in water transmission and distribution, desalination, wastewater, oil and gas production and fiscal metering, refineries, petrochemical and chemical plants, and power stations.
