A PROFINET option card for VLT drives with built-in two-port switch
The 130B1235 is the conformal-coated version of the Danfoss VLT PROFINET MCA 120, a fieldbus option for VLT drives; the uncoated version carries code number 130B1135. According to the Danfoss installation guide the interface communicates with any system that complies with the PROFINET schema versions 2.2 and 2.3, and it is intended for use with the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102, VLT Refrigeration Drive FC 103, VLT AQUA Drive FC 202, VLT AutomationDrive FC 301/FC 302 and VLT Decentral Drive FCD 302. The card has two Ethernet ports with a switch inside, which allows star, line and ring topologies without an external switch for every drive.

Topology, timing and commissioning notes
The installation guide gives minimum update times for line topologies: 2 ms for fewer than 8 drives in series, 4 ms for 8-16, 8 ms for 16-32 and 16 ms for 33-50 drives, and more than 50 not recommended; the design rules also say not to connect more than 32 drives in a series. In a line topology all drives must be powered, either by mains or by a 24 V DC option card, for the built-in switch to work, and the drive with the longest discharge time should be mounted first. Ring topology requires a redundancy manager and an external switch that supports loss-of-line detection; the transition from ring to two lines can take from 200 ms to several seconds.
Warning 34 indicates a fieldbus fault. The official Danfoss photo of this part shows the uncoated 130B1135 label, so we leave this listing without a picture to avoid a conflicting model number. Confirm the drive type and software version before ordering.

How the 130B1235 PROFINET option works
The MCA 120 is mounted in the option A slot of the drive and connects the VLT drive to a PROFINET IO controller, typically a PLC. Cyclic process data such as control word, speed reference, status word and actual speed are exchanged at the configured update time, while parameters can be read and written acyclically. Once the option is powered up, the drive shows the additional parameter groups 9-** and 12-** for fieldbus and Ethernet settings.
The built-in Ethernet switch with two equal RJ45 ports is what makes line wiring possible: the cable runs from the PLC or switch to the first drive and onwards from drive to drive. Danfoss also supports star topology and ring/redundant line topology; ring operation requires an external switch acting as redundancy manager.

130B1235 selection & ordering guide
- Coated or uncoated. 130B1235 is the conformal-coated version; 130B1135 is uncoated. Coated boards are the usual choice for humid, dusty or corrosive atmospheres.
- Drive compatibility. The option is for FC 102, FC 103, FC 202, FC 301/302 and FCD 302. Give us the drive type code from the nameplate.
- Retrofit kit. When the option is not factory-mounted, the delivery includes the LCP cradle, front covers, stickers, accessory bags, strain relief for A1/A2 and the installation guide.
- Power for line topology. All drives in a line must be powered, from mains or a 24 V DC option, for the switch to pass traffic; plan a 24 V DC backup if drives are isolated during maintenance.
Installation & maintenance
Isolate the drive and wait for the discharge time before fitting the option. Set the address switches before power-up, because a changed station name takes effect only at the next power-up. Use shielded cable, keep the specified separation from motor and power cables, and do not connect more than 32 drives in series.
For diagnostics, the option has three bicolour LEDs: MS, NS1 and NS2. In normal operation MS and at least one NS LED are steady green. The wink function from the engineering tool makes all three flash yellow so the correct drive can be located in the panel. Warning 34 Fieldbus Fault appears if there is no communication with the master within 60 s after power-up, if the master is in stop mode, or if the configuration is wrong.

Choosing Danfoss products
For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.
