Rittal CS 9791.015 Outdoor Wall-Mounted Enclosure

Description

A double-shell aluminium enclosure for outdoor installation

The Rittal CS 9791.015 is an outdoor wall- or pole-mounted enclosure built as an enclosure within an enclosure. An outer aluminium shell with integrated louvres in the rear and side panels and a cut-out at the bottom provides ventilation and shades the inner enclosure, which holds the equipment behind a security lock. The outside is powder-coated in UV-resistant pure polyester, RAL 7035, and the protection category is IP 55.

Mounting and use

Two C-rails are screwed to the rear panel so the enclosure can be fixed to a pole attachment or directly to a wall. The tender text describes a 180 degree opening angle on the stainless door, a thermostat holder at the top left of the inner enclosure and gland plates fitted at top and bottom of the inner body. The outer cover has a recessed handle, and the ventilation louvres sit at the upper left, right and rear, with rows of holes in the base sides.

The outer shell reduces direct solar load on the inner enclosure, but IP 55 is a dust and water-jet rating, not a submersion rating, and the datasheet gives no temperature range or heat-dissipation figure. Calculate the heat load of the installed devices and add a thermostat-controlled heater or fan solution where required.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm usable internal size (300 x 400 x 170 mm inner enclosure), pole diameter and bracket needs, the lock type, and the delivery time. The datasheet lists no approvals for this article, so state any certification requirement in your enquiry.

How the Rittal CS 9791.015 outdoor enclosure works

The enclosure is a shell within a shell. The inner aluminium enclosure houses the electrical or electronic equipment and is closed with a lockable stainless steel door. A second outer cover sits over it with a gap between the two. The outer shell takes the sun and rain, and its louvres let air move through the gap, which carries heat away from the inner box. This reduces the temperature rise from solar radiation compared with a single-skin box in the same sun.

The powder coating is UV-resistant pure polyester in RAL 7035 light grey, and the protection category of IP 55 means protection against dust and water jets.

Where the CS 9791.015 is used

  • Roadside and pole-mounted junction boxes for telecom and control equipment.
  • Outdoor instrumentation and sensor junction points in plants and utilities.
  • Small control units for pumping stations, irrigation and weather monitoring.
  • Locations exposed to sun where a plain painted box would heat up too much.

Selection checklist for the CS 9791.015

  • Usable internal space: the inner box is 300 x 400 x 170 mm with clearances of 280 x 380 x 145 mm.
  • Mounting plate of 270 x 380 mm and how much of it is taken by the devices.
  • Heat loss of the installed equipment, and whether a thermostat-controlled heater or fan is needed.
  • Mounting method: wall or pole, using the two C-rails at the rear.
  • Cable entry through the gland plates at the top and bottom of the inner box.
  • Lock: the cam lock with the security lock 3524 E.
  • Delivery time, which the datasheet says can be extended.
  • Weight of about 8 kg, which the pole or wall fixing must carry.

Installation and maintenance notes

Fix the enclosure with corrosion-resistant bolts and arrange cable glands so water cannot run along the cable into the box, for example by forming a drip loop. Seal unused openings. Keep the louvres clear of leaves, dust and insects, and do not install the box where it will be sprayed with high-pressure water from below, because IP 55 is not intended for that. A thermostat or hygrostat can be fitted on the bracket supplied. Periodically inspect the seals, the lock and the coating, and touch up scratches so that corrosion does not start.

Requesting a quotation for the Rittal CS 9791.015

Send the model number, quantity, the accessories you need and the delivery location. Seven Star LLC serves industrial customers in Oman and the GCC and replies with a quotation based on the information provided.

Heat planning inside the enclosure

Add up the power losses of the devices to be mounted inside and compare them with the cooling that the outer shell and louvres can give in the local climate. Where the equipment is sensitive, consider a thermostat-controlled fan or a heater for cold nights, and keep the thermostat at the bracket provided.

Preparing the enclosure for equipment

Drill the mounting plate outside the enclosure when possible, so metal chips do not enter the electronics. Fit DIN rails or terminal blocks to the plate, connect the earth bonding, and label the wires. Use cable glands rated for the outdoor environment and tighten them evenly. Test the door seal and the lock before the enclosure is taken to site.

About brand

Rittal is a German manufacturer of enclosures, power distribution and climate control products, founded in 1961 and based in Herborn, and part of the Friedhelm Loh Group. Many control panels worldwide are built in a Rittal enclosure or one built to the same pattern.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Rittal enclosures, cooling units and power distribution products for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Rittal product series

Enclosures include the TS 8 free-standing bayable system, AE compact enclosures such as the AE 1380.500 and AE 1034.500, and the CS outdoor wall-mounted enclosure. For hazardous areas there are the KEL 9404.600 stainless steel and AX 9206.100 plastic Ex enclosures. Power distribution is covered by the VX25 Ri4Power switchgear system and its 185 mm busbar system.

Climate control includes Blue e+ wall-mounted cooling units, the TopTherm Blue e SK 3273.500 roof-mounted unit and the LCP Inline CW liquid cooling package for IT racks.

Where Rittal products are used

Machine and process control panels, motor control and power distribution switchboards, outdoor telecom and utility cabinets, junction boxes in hazardous areas and IT racks. In the Gulf, cabinet cooling is often the deciding factor for reliable electronics.

Ordering Rittal products: what we need

Rittal parts are ordered by a seven-digit model number such as 9404.600. Send that number, or the width, height and depth, material, protection category and door arrangement. For cooling units add the cooling output, rated voltage and mounting cut-out of the unit being replaced; for Ex enclosures, the zone and marking required.
