Apollo SA5100-600 Soteria Optical Smoke Detector

Description

A low-profile optical detector with PureLight sensing and built-in isolator

The Apollo SA5100-600 is the Soteria optical smoke detector with an integrated switchable short-circuit isolator. It uses PureLight optical sensing technology, which Apollo says aims to reduce the possibility of false alarms while increasing the reliability of detection of a real fire. A cone sensing chamber with a high-intensity infrared LED, a photo-diode and amplifier in an ASIC, a serpentine pathway against dust and insect ingress, and a dynamic algorithm for transient rejection and drift compensation are used.

The detector communicates by the digital CoreProtocol and stays backward compatible with Apollo XP95 and Discovery loops, so Soteria heads and bases can operate on existing systems. The datasheet notes that not every Soteria feature is available when connected to an XP95 or Discovery fire control panel.

Operating modes, addressing and maintenance

The control panel selects the sensitivity mode. Modes 1 and 2 respond at 0.10 dB/m with minimum times to alarm of 5 s and 30 s, modes 3 and 4 at 0.14 dB/m, and mode 5 at 0.16 dB/m with a 5 s time. A universal XPERT 8 card is supplied with XPERT 8 intelligent mounting bases for addressing: pips on the card are removed to set the address, which stays the same when detectors are replaced. With CoreProtocol, panels that support it can enable auto-addressing.

Feature list: switchable isolator, drift compensation, three-colour LED status indicator, FasTest for quicker testing, universal XPERT card addressing and a grub-screw locking mechanism. Clean the detector externally with a soft damp cloth; for full cleaning and recalibration detectors should be returned to Apollo.

Selection and what to confirm before ordering

Order the detector head separately from its base (for example the XPERT 8 intelligent mounting base) and confirm the panel and loop compatibility. If the detector is used on an XP95 panel with drift compensation, that algorithm must be disabled when communicating with Soteria devices.

The Soteria optical detector is for ordinary, non-hazardous areas. Check which approvals apply to your exact part and suffix, since the datasheet notes that not all detectors have all approvals. The site already supplies the Apollo SA5100-700 Soteria multisensor, which is a different product.

How the Apollo SA5100-600 works

Smoke that enters the chamber scatters light from an infrared LED onto a photo-diode. The more smoke, the more light reaches the diode. The electronics sample the signal once per second and compare it with the alarm level. The detector reports its analogue value to the panel, which decides when to raise the alarm.

About brand

Apollo Fire Detectors is a British manufacturer of fire detection devices, founded in 1980 and based in Havant, United Kingdom, and part of the Halma group. Its detectors, call points and interfaces are used on addressable and conventional fire alarm systems with control panels from many manufacturers.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Apollo detectors and loop devices for fire alarm contractors and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.
