Apollo FL5100-600APO Soteria Dimension Optical Detector

Description

A chamberless, flush-mounted optical smoke detector

The Apollo FL5100-600APO is the Soteria Dimension optical detector, which differs from standard fire detectors by having no chamber and being flush mounted. Infrared LEDs and photo-diodes detect smoke particles just below the detector housing outside the case and initiate an alarm. A black variant, FL5100-660APO, is listed in the same datasheet; the photo on this page shows the black variant.

It uses the digital CoreProtocol with backward compatibility for Discovery and XP95 systems, an integrated switchable isolator as standard, 8-way DIL switch addressing, drift compensation, FasTest for quicker testing and a tricolour LED. It was designed and manufactured in the UK according to the datasheet.

Siting, commissioning and cleaning

A minimum clearance of 500 mm in all directions must be maintained, and the arrow on the backbox is aligned with the longest clear line of sight free of ceiling obstructions. The commissioning label on the faceplate protects the lenses from dust and fingerprints and must only be removed at commissioning; leaving it on reports a fault to the panel. The detector is for internal use only.

Because of how it senses, the windows must be kept free from damage, scratches, dirt and fingerprints. Clean with a dry lint-free cloth after isolating the fire system. The preferred test method is a Solo 365 with a Solo 367 adapter. The installation must conform to BS 5839-1 or applicable local codes.

What to confirm before ordering

Confirm the finish (white FL5100-600APO or black FL5100-660APO), the panel and loop compatibility, and the features you need, since not all features are available with XP95 or Discovery panels. Drift compensation algorithms on XP95 panels must be disabled with Soteria Dimension.

Optical smoke detectors are recommended for general use, particularly where slow-burning fires are a risk. Check the ceiling layout, clearances and the aesthetic requirements before choosing a flush-mounted chamberless head.

How the Apollo FL5100-600APO works

The FL5100-600APO has no smoke chamber. Three infrared emitters send light just below the flat face of the detector, and two photo-diodes watch for light scattered back by smoke particles. When the scattered light passes the alarm level, the detector sends an alarm to the panel. The detector sits flush with the ceiling, so it is hard to knock and easy to wipe clean. It talks to the panel with the digital CoreProtocol and is compatible with Discovery and XP95 systems.

Where the FL5100-600APO is used

  • Offices and corporate buildings
  • Hotels and hospitality areas
  • Hospitals and care facilities
  • Retail and showrooms with a clean ceiling design
  • Buildings with Apollo addressable fire panels

Selection checklist for the FL5100-600APO

  • FL5100-600APO or the black variant FL5100-660APO
  • Loop protocol: CoreProtocol, Discovery or XP95
  • Integrated isolator, switchable
  • Address set on the 8-way DIL switch
  • Response setting and time to alarm of 15 or 30 s
  • Indoor use only, with IP55
  • Mounting with or without the backbox
  • Clear space of 500 mm around the detector

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Align the arrow on the backbox with the longest clear line of sight. Set the address, fit the detector and leave the commissioning label on the faceplate until commissioning, because it keeps the lenses clean and, if left on, shows a fault at the panel. Test with the FasTest function and keep the lenses clean.

About brand

Apollo Fire Detectors is a British manufacturer of fire detection devices, founded in 1980 and based in Havant, United Kingdom, and part of the Halma group. Its detectors, call points and interfaces are used on addressable and conventional fire alarm systems with control panels from many manufacturers.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Apollo detectors and loop devices for fire alarm contractors and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.
