Apollo 55000-295 XP95 Exd Flame Detector IR2 Flameproof

Description

A flameproof flame detector for hazardous indoor areas

The Apollo 55000-295 is the XP95 Exd flame detector (IR2) in a flameproof housing, designed for hazardous environments in indoor applications. Two sensors respond to different IR wavelengths to discriminate between flames and spurious radiation. Apollo states the detectors are BASEEFA approved and meet ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

The datasheet lists ATEX certification II 2 G D and CENELEC/IEC certification EEX d IIC T4 for Zones 1, 21, 2 and 22. It offers Class 1 sensitivity to EN 54-10, detecting a 0.12 m2 fire at 25 m, with the highest optical interference immunity, sensitivity to flickering IR, detection through films of oil, dust, water and ice, and a remote optical self-test function.

Using it in classified areas

Apollo specifies this model for indoor hazardous applications. The certification wording is quoted as printed (EEX d IIC T4, ATEX II 2 G D), so check that the certificate version and marking meet the standard requested for the project, for example current IEC Ex marking requirements, before purchase.

The detector is compatible with Discovery and XP95 protocols and uses a 90 degree field of view with coverage of up to 40 m. As an IR2 unit it is sensitive to flickering infrared radiation and responds to flames invisible to the naked eye. The remote optical self-test function allows functional checks of the optics.

Selection and what to confirm before ordering

Confirm the zone and gas or dust group, ambient temperature, cable glands and certified entries, the distance and fire size to detect, and compatibility with the XP95 or Discovery panel. The datasheet describes indoor use, so ask the manufacturer if outdoor exposure is planned.

For general areas without a flameproof requirement see the XP95 IR2 flame detector 55000-280; for combined UV and IR detection on a conventional circuit see the 55000-064.

About brand

Apollo devices are used to build addressable fire alarm loops. Apollo, founded in 1980 and based in Havant, United Kingdom, makes fire detectors and the loop devices that work with them. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Apollo fire detection devices for fire alarm contractors and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC, currently the XP95 Sounder Control Unit.

Apollo XP95 loop devices

XP95 is the Apollo range of analogue addressable detectors and interfaces. Besides detectors, it includes modules that link the loop to other equipment. The Sounder Control Unit on our site is one of these: it lets the control panel switch and supervise a circuit of conventional sounders fed from an external power supply.

Ordering Apollo devices: what we need

Apollo identifies each device by a part number in the form 55000-000, for example 55000-182 for a DIN-rail sounder control unit. Send that number, the range name printed on the device, the quantity, and the make and model of your control panel. For detectors, state whether mounting bases are needed and which type.
