The KSB MegaCPK is a standardized chemical pump with dimensions to ISO 2858 and design to ISO 5199. It is intended for aggressive organic and inorganic fluids in the chemical and petrochemical industries, process engineering, sugar, biodiesel and bioethanol, fire-fighting systems, seawater desalination and reverse osmosis, condensate, hot water, brine, the steel industry, heat transfer media and cleaning agents.

KSB offers 11 more pump sizes than required by ISO 2858, so a duty point can often be reached with a smaller pump, which lowers investment cost.

Selecting a MegaCPK pump

As with other ISO 2858 pumps, material and seal choice depend on the fluid: give composition, concentration, temperature and solids. Then state flow, head, NPSH available and driver. The extra sizes mean that a smaller size may meet the duty, so compare the options rather than defaulting to a larger size.

ISO 2858 pumps share standardised dimensions for the flanges, shaft end and foot, so in principle a pump of this type can be fitted to an existing ISO 2858 baseplate footprint; verify the actual installation dimensions and the shaft sealing chamber before ordering a replacement. The sealing chamber matters on chemical duties because it decides which seal designs fit, from gland packing to single, double and cartridge seals. Duplex and super duplex grades suit chloride-bearing fluids such as brine and seawater, while cast iron suits non-corrosive duties, so list the full fluid composition with any enquiry.

How the KSB MegaCPK chemical pump works

The MegaCPK is a centrifugal pump. The motor turns an impeller inside the casing, and the fluid is thrown outward by the vanes, so its speed and pressure rise. The casing guides the fluid to the discharge flange. The pump is a back pull-out design, so the impeller, the shaft and the bearing assembly can be removed from the rear without taking the casing off the pipes. The dimensions follow ISO 2858 and the design follows ISO 5199, so the pump fits common standardised baseplates and flange positions.

Selection checklist for the MegaCPK

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes

Fix the baseplate on a flat foundation and align the pump and motor shafts with a dial gauge or a laser tool. Connect pipes without strain on the flanges, and keep the suction pipe short and straight to protect the NPSH margin. Fill the pump and the suction pipe with fluid before starting, and check the direction of rotation of the motor with the coupling disconnected. Watch the shaft seal, the bearing temperature and the vibration. Replace the seals and bearings at the intervals in the manual.

Why a closer size match saves energy

Material selection for aggressive fluids

Stainless steel, duplex and super duplex are chosen when the fluid attacks cast iron. Check the corrosion data for the fluid, and consider chlorides and temperature together.

A single mechanical seal suits many clean fluids. A double seal or a cartridge seal is chosen for hazardous, toxic or abrasive fluids where leakage must be controlled.
