The MB 100 is a horizontal close-coupled centrifugal pump in polypropylene or PVDF from the Debem MB series, which covers 6 to 75 m3/h. It uses an open impeller so that it can handle dirty liquids with apparent viscosity up to 500 cps and small suspended solids, and the buyer chooses between a lip seal (TL) and a mechanical bellows seal (TS). The MB 100 delivers up to 9 m3/h at 12 m head through 1 1/2 inch suction and 1 inch delivery ports.

Decoding the order code
The MB manual prints a code such as MB 100 P-TLV N. Read it as the model (MB 80 to MB 180), the body material (P for polypropylene, EC for PVDF), the seal and elastomer (TLV lip seal with Viton, TLD lip seal with EPDM, TSV bellows with Viton, TSD bellows with EPDM) and the motor (N three-phase, M single-phase, A ATEX). The manual recommends the pump for liquids with apparent viscosity of 1 to 500 cps that are chemically compatible with the wetted materials, and it is installed under head, with the suction below liquid level, so that the pump is primed before it starts.
Choosing the seal and installing
Lip seals suit clean, cooler duties at low cost; the bellows seal is the better choice for tougher liquids and fluctuating conditions, but check the seal faces for abrasion and crystallising fluids. The manual limits fluid temperature to 65 C for polypropylene and 95 C for PVDF in service, and calls for a protective device when ambient and fluid temperature may approach those limits. Piping should be self-supported, the suction line short with a shut-off valve, and the motor direction of rotation verified before the first start. The manual designs the pump for a maximum speed of 2900 rpm in direct drive with a motor that has a rear axial compensator for thermal expansion, and it asks for installation under head with precautions to avoid vortices at the suction, which would draw air into the casing. When the fluid is aggressive or crystallising, rinse the pump before long shutdowns.

Debem product series
Air-operated diaphragm pumps include the Boxer 50, 100, 252 (AISI 316) and the large Boxer 522, and the compact Cubic 15. The Equaflux 100 pulsation damper smooths the discharge flow of diaphragm pumps. The TRA drum pump in AISI 316 empties drums and containers.
