Atlas Copco ZB 5/6/7 VSD+ Oil-Free Turbo Blower

Description

Magnetic-bearing turbo blowers for wastewater and process air

The Atlas Copco ZB 5/6/7 VSD+ are oil-free, high-speed turbo blowers with magnetic bearings, a variable speed drive and an IE5 permanent magnet motor. The leaflet names wastewater treatment, fermentation, pneumatic conveying and flue gas desulphurisation as typical uses. Magnetic bearings remove the need for lubrication and wear, no compressed air is used to run the machine, and no power bank is required in case of power failure. The package is plug-and-play and includes inlet filter, blow-off valve and silencer, with the Elektronikon controller and SMARTLINK connectivity for remote monitoring.

Reference conditions in the leaflet are 1 bara, 20 °C and 0% relative humidity. Noise is the A-weighted emission sound pressure level at the work station to ISO 2151 and ISO 9614 with an uncertainty of 3 dB.

The leaflet lists the 1,400 mbar(g) / 20 psi(g) working pressure once, in the ZB 5 row, so confirm the working pressure of the model you need when requesting a quotation.

Efficiency and reliability features

Variable speed technology and an optimised aero impeller design keep efficiency high across the pressure and flow range, and the modulating blow-off system lets the blower follow fluctuating demand while keeping a stable flow, without fully shutting off, even during a surge. Separate cooling and air flows avoid pressure drops, and the contactless bearings give low vibration, long component life and low noise. Atlas Copco states that it quotes the actual flow and pressure and the total electricity consumption of the unit, so offers can be compared on the same basis.

Installation and operation

The ZB VSD+ comes as one complete, fully integrated package that keeps the footprint compact and is described as ready for operation on arrival. The leaflet lists the inlet filter, blow-off valve and silencer as part of that package. The Elektronikon controller and SMARTLINK connectivity allow control, remote monitoring and performance optimisation. The IE5 permanent magnet motor and high-quality selected components support the stated energy savings, and the variable speed drive uses high-precision inverter management.

Atlas Copco describes the magnetic bearings as a maglev design with contactless operation, which gives low vibration, long component lifetime and minimal noise. Separate cooling and air flows avoid pressure drops. Because the quoted figures cover delivered flow and package power, the leaflet states that there is no confusion between inlet or delivered flow, or between shaft and package power.

Options and ordering

Options listed are a low-pressure-drop check valve, compensator for piping connection, flanged air inlet with or without filter, anchor pads, a performance test certificate and a witness performance test. Confirm the duty point, inlet temperature and altitude, supply voltage and the discharge piping before ordering. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes the exact model. The leaflet is attached and other machines are under Compressors.

About brand

Atlas Copco is a Swedish industrial group founded in 1873 in Stockholm as AB Atlas, which originally made railway equipment. It took the name Atlas Copco in 1956 and is now known worldwide for air and gas compressors, vacuum pumps, blowers and industrial tools. Atlas Copco is headquartered in Nacka, near Stockholm, and its brands include Leybold.

Seven Star LLC lists Atlas Copco G and GA VSD+ oil-injected rotary screw compressors and supplies Atlas Copco compressors and parts to workshops and plants in Oman and the GCC.

Atlas Copco compressor ranges on this page

The G 2-22 range covers the smaller fixed-speed oil-injected screw compressors, from 2.2 to 22 kW, supplied floor-mounted or tank-mounted, with or without an integrated dryer. The GA VSD+ series uses a variable speed drive, so the motor follows the air demand, which suits plants whose consumption changes through the shift. Both are monitored through an Elektronikon controller.

Ordering Atlas Copco compressors and parts: what we need

For parts and service kits, send the compressor model, the serial number from the data plate and the part number if you have it. Filters, separators and oil are specific to the model and build year. For a new compressor, give the air flow required (FAD), working pressure, supply voltage and frequency, the highest ambient temperature at site, and whether a dryer and receiver are required.
