Hanna HI98190 Waterproof Portable pH and ORP Meter

Description

A rugged pH and ORP meter with laboratory-grade resolution

The HI98190 is a waterproof handheld pH and ORP meter from Hanna Instruments, built for plant and field work where a bench instrument is impractical. It reads pH from -2.0 to 20.0 with selectable resolution down to 0.001 pH, reads millivolts with 0.1 mV resolution, and measures temperature from -20.0 to 120.0 °C through the sensor built into the electrode. Hanna describes the meter family as designed to deliver laboratory results and accuracy under harsh industrial conditions.

The meter ships with the HI12963 titanium-body pH electrode, which carries an internal temperature sensor and a quick-connect DIN plug. Because the electrode body is titanium rather than glass, the supplied kit suits wastewater, slurries, food-contact lines and other samples where a glass body would be a breakage risk.

Calibration and diagnostics that protect the reading

Most pH errors on site come from calibration, not from the meter. The HI98190 addresses this directly. It can be calibrated at up to five points using seven memorised buffers that span pH 1.68 to 12.45, or against five user-entered custom buffers when a process sample needs a specific reference. On-screen messages walk the operator through each step, and the Cal Check diagnostic alerts the user when the electrode needs cleaning, while electrode ageing is monitored and an optional outside-calibration-range warning can be enabled.

A user-selectable calibration time-out reminds the operator when a new calibration is due, and the GLP function recalls the last calibration data for audit purposes. Relative millivolt measurement is available for ORP work, and Auto Hold freezes the first stable reading on the display so the instrument can be read after the probe is withdrawn from a hot or hazardous sample.

Where the HI98190 fits, what to confirm and what ships in the kit

Typical uses are boiler and cooling-water checks, effluent and neutralisation tanks, process chemistry, water supply networks and general quality control. Choose this model when pH and ORP are the only parameters required; Hanna lists the HI98191 for users who also need ion-selective electrode measurement, the HI98192 for conductivity, the HI98193 for dissolved oxygen and the HI98199 for pH, EC and DO on one body.

Before ordering, confirm the sample temperature and chemistry against the electrode body material, the cable length needed, whether spare buffers and cleaning solution are required, and whether the optional PC software is wanted. The model number in this listing is the meter kit; replacement electrodes are ordered separately by their own codes.

Per Hanna, the HI98190 is supplied with the HI12963 titanium-body pH electrode with internal temperature sensor and 1 m cable, HI7004M pH 4.01 and HI7007M pH 7.01 buffer solutions (230 mL each), two sachets of HI700601 electrode cleaning solution, two 100 mL plastic beakers, four AA batteries, the HI92000 PC software, an HI920015 micro USB cable, instruction manual, quick start guide, quality certificate and an HI720190 hard carrying case.

About brand

Hanna Instruments is a manufacturer of analytical instruments for pH, ORP, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorine and titration, founded in 1978 by Oscar and Anna Nardo. Its portable meters, benchtop meters, photometers and electrodes are designed to give laboratory-style results in plant and field conditions.

Water quality instruments

Waterproof portable meters such as the HI98190, HI98192, HI98193 and HI9829 cover pH, EC, dissolved oxygen and multiparameter logging, while photometers and turbidimeters address chlorine and turbidity checks in drinking water, wastewater, boilers, cooling circuits and process lines. Features such as CAL Check validation cuvettes, GLP calibration recall and on-board data logging are described in each Hanna manual.
