Bettis SCE300 Quarter-Turn Electric Actuator
Description
Overview
The Bettis SCE300 is an intelligent quarter-turn electric actuator from Emerson that fits the functions of larger, heavier actuators into a compact, lightweight all-in-one housing. It is available in six sizes for nominal torques from 63 to 2,000 Nm and is designed for on-off or modulating control of ball, butterfly and plug valves. Emerson lists heavy industrial, chemical, petrochemical and onshore and offshore oil and gas installations among its intended applications, and the actuator carries flameproof approvals for hazardous areas alongside a weatherproof IP66/68 version.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Bettis SCE300 to plants, skid builders and EPC contractors in Oman and across the GCC. As a trusted supplier with engineering support in Muscat, we help select the model, supply voltage, operating time and optional modules so that each actuated valve arrives configured for the site control system.
Working Principle
The Bettis SCE300 drives the valve through an electric motor and epicyclical (planocentric) gearing, which Emerson specifies for reliable and smooth operation. The nominal output torque is constant along the entire 90 degree stroke, and the operating time is configurable in steps, for example 15, 28 or 48 seconds per 90 degrees on models 063 to 500, and up to 180 seconds on the largest model. Position is detected by a non-contact sensor, and the open and closed positions are configured electronically on the control card, so no cams or mechanical limit switches need to be set inside the housing.
Bettis SCE300 control functions are set with two rotary switches on the logic board, covering position, torque, opening and closing speed and output contacts. Remote control defaults to three-wire operation with separate open and close signals and can be configured for two-wire control. A thermostat protects the motor in hot applications, and an integral heater switches on below 10 °C to prevent condensation. A constantly engaged manual override with a handwheel that does not rotate during motor operation allows the valve to be moved when power is lost.
Engineering Design of the Bettis SCE300
The Bettis SCE300 uses a multi-drilled base plate and a range of drive inserts, allowing direct mounting to almost all valve types in accordance with EN ISO 5211 and other manufacturers’ standards; base flanges range from F07 on the smallest model upwards. The compact, balanced body minimises the load on the valve shaft and stress on the pipework, which is particularly useful on small valves. A top-mounted mechanical indicator shows valve position locally, and conduit entries are four M25 or four 1 inch NPT.
Standard Bettis SCE300 outputs include four latched contacts for fully open and fully closed remote indication, an output for blinker or local selector indication, and a monitor relay that signals loss of power, torque alarm, high temperature, travel alarm, position sensor fault, hardware malfunction or local selection. Optional modules add a 4 to 20 mA or 0 to 10 V position input and output with four extra contacts (OM1), a local interface with selector and push-buttons (OM3), a three-wire module (OM13), PROFIBUS DP V0/V1 (OM9) or DeviceNet (OM11).
Key Features

- Constant output torque across the full stroke with selectable operating times.
- Non-contact position sensing with electronic end-position setting.
- On-off or modulating service, with 4 to 20 mA control through the OM1 module.
- PROFIBUS DP and DeviceNet network options for plant control systems.
- Flameproof approvals including ATEX and IECEx Ex db eb IIB T5 Gb, FM, INMETRO, EAC and CCC.
- Standard temperature range -25 to +70 °C, with a low temperature option to -40 °C.
Industrial Applications
The Bettis SCE300 suits sites where instrument air is not available or not preferred, such as remote wellhead locations, tank farms, utility areas and water networks powered from local electrical supplies. Typical duties include on-off isolation of ball and butterfly valves on product transfer, cooling water and firewater lines, and modulating control of butterfly valves in water and wastewater treatment and HVAC chilled water systems. Flameproof versions allow installation in Zone 1 areas of refineries, gas plants and chemical facilities, while the IP66/68 and NEMA 4/4X/6 rating covers outdoor service.
The compact size of the Bettis SCE300 also makes it attractive for OEM packages and process skids, where several small valves need electric automation with a common accessory and wiring standard. Seven Star LLC supports customers in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and the GCC as a trusted supplier of the Bettis SCE300, helping specify the right model, voltage and optional modules and coordinating supply with the valves themselves.

About brand
On pipeline and wellhead valves across the oil and gas industry, the scotch yoke actuator bolted on top is very often a Bettis. The brand dates from 1929 and today covers pneumatic, hydraulic and electric valve actuators. Seven Star LLC lists the Bettis G-Series, CBA300 and CBB-Series pneumatic scotch yoke actuators and supplies Bettis actuators and spare parts to operators in Oman and the GCC.
Bettis scotch yoke actuator series
The G-Series is the modular pneumatic scotch yoke actuator for quarter-turn valves, built up from a drive module, pressure modules and, for fail-safe duty, a spring module. The CBB-Series is the compact, lightweight scotch yoke design for smaller valves, and the CBA300 Series is a compact pneumatic actuator in the same class. Each comes as double-acting or spring-return. Several Bettis actuators are offered in configurations that comply with API 6DX.
