Badger Meter Recordall Disc Series Water Meter

Description

Overview

The Badger Meter Recordall Disc series is a line of positive displacement nutating disc meters for measuring potable cold water in residential, commercial and industrial services where flow runs in one direction. Models 25, 35, 55 and 70 cover 5/8 inch, 5/8 x 3/4 inch, 3/4 inch and 1 inch connections. The bodies are lead-free bronze alloy, the meters meet or exceed AWWA Standard C700, comply with the lead-free provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act and are certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN Standards 61 and 372.

Property developers, utilities and industrial estates in Oman install thousands of small-bore meters for villas, apartments, shops, labor camps and plant sub-metering. Seven Star LLC supplies the Badger Meter Recordall Disc on request with engineering support in Muscat, together with the encoders, registers and tailpiece or union connections needed to finish each metering point.

Nutating Disc Operating Principle

Water passes through the strainer of the Badger Meter Recordall Disc and enters the measuring chamber, where it makes the disc nutate, wobbling on its own ball and guided by a thrust roller. Each nutation passes a fixed volume of water, so the number of nutations is a direct measure of volume. A drive magnet transmits the disc motion through the housing to a follower magnet in the permanently sealed register, and a gear train reduces the nutations to volume units shown on the register or encoder face.

Because the measuring principle is positive displacement, the meter keeps its accuracy at very low flow, which suits households and small commercial users where leaks and trickle consumption matter. The meters meet or exceed registration accuracy at low flow (95 percent), at normal operating flow (100 percent plus or minus 1.5 percent) and at maximum continuous flow as specified in AWWA C700. No change gears are needed for calibration.

Engineering Design of the Badger Meter Recordall Disc

Each meter is built from a housing, a measuring chamber and a permanently sealed register or encoder. The housing is lead-free bronze alloy with externally threaded spuds, the chamber and disc are corrosion-resistant engineered polymer and trim is stainless steel. The built-in strainer has an effective straining area equal to twice the inlet size. The register, measuring chamber and strainer can be replaced without removing the housing from the installation, and parts are interchangeable among like-sized meters to reduce spare-parts inventory.

The local register is a straight-reading, permanently sealed magnetic drive unit with a sweep-hand test circle, while high resolution HR-E and HR-E LCD encoders provide AMR and AMI reading options on every Badger Meter Recordall Disc model. Tamper protection is available through a seal wire screw, TORX tamper-resistant screw or proprietary keyed seal screw, and tailpieces or unions can be ordered for connection to misaligned pipes of various types.

Key Features

Capabilities of the Badger Meter Recordall Disc series include:

  • Nutating disc positive displacement measurement that stays accurate at low flow rates.
  • Four models, 25, 35, 55 and 70, with typical operating ranges of 0.5 to 25, 0.75 to 35, 1 to 55 and 1.25 to 70 gpm.
  • Low flow registration of at least 98.5 percent on model 25, 97 percent on model 35 and 95 percent on models 55 and 70.
  • Direct magnetic drive to a permanently sealed register, protecting against dirt, moisture, tampering and lens fogging.
  • Lead-free bronze alloy housing carrying the NSF-61 mark, with trade designations M25-LL, M35-LL, M55-LL and M70-LL.
  • Built-in strainer with twice the inlet area, plus replaceable chamber, register and strainer for easy maintenance.
  • Encoder options for AMR and AMI systems that can be removed without disrupting water service.
  • Maximum operating pressure of 150 psi (10 bar) and maximum operating temperature of 80 °F (26 °C).

Industrial Applications

The Badger Meter Recordall Disc is intended for potable cold water in residential, commercial and industrial services. In the Sultanate of Oman it fits individual dwellings and apartment blocks, retail units, hotels, labor accommodation and the plant sub-metering networks of industrial areas in Sohar, Salalah and Muscat, where operators need consistent water accounting at many small connection points.

Utilities frequently pair small-bore disc meters with larger meters and electronic instruments at bulk points. Seven Star LLC supplies the Badger Meter Recordall Disc together with larger and electronic flow instruments such as the Badger Meter M2000 electromagnetic flow meter, the Endress+Hauser Promag W 10 electromagnetic flowmeter and the GF Signet 3-2551 Magmeter insertion electromagnetic flow sensor, so a water network can be specified from a single source.

About brand

Water utilities know Badger Meter first for its Recordall mechanical meters, and process engineers for its ModMAG electromagnetic flow meters. The Milwaukee company has made flow measurement equipment since 1905. Seven Star LLC lists Badger Meter Recordall Compound and Turbo Series water meters and the ModMAG M2000, and supplies Badger Meter flow meters to utilities, contractors and plants in Oman and the GCC.

Badger Meter product families on this page

Recordall Turbo Series meters are turbine meters for potable cold water in commercial and industrial service, in sizes from 1-1/2 to 12 in. Recordall Compound Series meters combine a turbine chamber for high flow with a positive displacement chamber for low flow, so the meter keeps registering when demand drops to a trickle. The ModMAG M2000 is an electromagnetic meter with no moving parts in the flow, for water, wastewater and other conductive liquids, with outputs such as Modbus RTU, HART, Profibus DP, BACnet and EtherNet/IP.

Ordering Badger Meter flow meters: what we need

State the line size, flow range, liquid and its temperature and pressure. For Recordall meters add the register type and units (gallons, cubic feet or cubic meters) and the end connections. For the ModMAG M2000 add liner and electrode material, flange standard, integral or remote amplifier, supply voltage and the communication protocol.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Badger Meter Recordall Disc measure flow?
The Badger Meter Recordall Disc uses a nutating disc in a measuring chamber. Each wobble of the disc passes a fixed volume of water, and a magnet couples that motion to a sealed register through a gear train, which gives accurate positive displacement measurement even at low flows.
Which models and sizes are available?
The series includes Model 25 for 5/8 and 5/8 x 3/4 inch, Model 35 for 3/4 inch and Models 55 and 70 for 1 inch connections. Typical operating ranges extend from 0.5 to 25 gpm up to 1.25 to 70 gpm.
Can the Badger Meter Recordall Disc be read remotely?
Yes. High resolution HR-E and HR-E LCD encoders are available for all models and connect to AMR and AMI reading systems. The encoders can be removed without disrupting water service.
Is maintenance difficult?
No. The register, measuring chamber and strainer of the Badger Meter Recordall Disc can be replaced without removing the housing from the installation, no change gears are needed for calibration, and parts are interchangeable among like-sized meters.
