Swagelok Tube Fittings
Overview
Swagelok Tube Fittings are precision-engineered compression fittings built around the patented two-ferrule design that has made Swagelok the global reference standard for leak-tight fluid and gas connections. Swagelok Tube Fittings separate the sealing and gripping functions between a front ferrule, which forms a gas-tight metal-on-metal seal against the fitting body and tubing, and a back ferrule, which grips the tubing and absorbs vibration – delivering consistent, reliable connections across virtually every industrial fluid system application without welding.
Backed by genuine manufacturer documentation, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies Swagelok Tube Fittings to industrial, oil and gas, and process customers across Oman and the wider GCC. Seven Star LLC supplies Swagelok Tube Fittings on request with manufacturer documentation and local technical support – serving facility engineers and procurement teams in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah.
Working Principle
The Swagelok Tube Fitting two-ferrule mechanical grip design achieves its seal through a precise sequence of controlled deformation. As the nut is tightened, typically one and a quarter turns from finger-tight (three-quarters of a turn for 1/16, 1/8 and 3/16 in. and 2, 3 and 4 mm sizes), the front ferrule is driven into the fitting body and burnishes and polishes both the body bevel and the tubing outside diameter, creating a metal-on-metal seal that minimizes the potential for leakage. This action requires no welding, flaring, or soldering, allowing tube connections to be made quickly in the field with only a wrench.
The back ferrule performs a separate and equally important function: as the nut advances the front ferrule axially, the back ferrule hinges inward through a patented hinging-colleting action that radially applies a strong, distributed grip on the tubing. This design isolates the stress riser created during assembly away from the sealing surface, so tubing vibration and bending loads are absorbed by the back ferrule rather than compromising the gas-tight seal at the front ferrule. The result is a connection that remains leak-tight even under sustained vibration, thermal cycling, and repeated disconnection and remake.
Engineering Design of Swagelok Tube Fittings
Swagelok Tube Fittings are manufactured in a wide range of body materials, including 316 stainless steel, brass, carbon steel, alloy 400, Alloy C-276, titanium, and PTFE, allowing selection to match the process fluid’s chemical compatibility and pressure-temperature requirements. The advanced-geometry, hinging-colleting back ferrule is standard on all 1/4 to 1 in. and 6 to 25 mm stainless steel tube fittings, produced through a patented case-hardening process that increases strength without sacrificing corrosion resistance.
Fittings are available as unions, reducing unions, elbows, tees, male and female connectors, bulkheads, and caps and plugs, covering virtually any tube-to-tube or tube-to-pipe connection requirement. Swagelok tube fittings are gaugeable, meaning the Swagelok gap inspection gauge confirms sufficient pull-up on initial installation, removing guesswork from the assembly process. Stainless steel fittings over 1 in./25 mm use PFA-coated ferrules, and applications above 450°F (232°C) call for silver-plated front ferrules.

Pressure and Temperature Ratings
Swagelok states that the pressure rating of its tube fitting ends is based on the working pressure of the tubing, as listed in the Swagelok Tubing Data catalog (MS-01-107), so the tubing size, wall thickness and material set the limit for the system. For example, 316 stainless steel tubing of 1/2 in. OD × 0.035 in. wall is rated at 2600 psig at -20 to 100 °F (-28 to 37 °C).
At elevated temperature the allowable working pressure is reduced by a temperature factor. For 316/316L stainless steel tubing the factor is 0.76 at 1000 °F (537 °C), which gives 1976 psig for the same tubing. Swagelok also states that stainless steel fittings over 1 in./25 mm need silver-plated front ferrules and uncoated back ferrules for applications above 450 °F (232 °C).
Materials, Sizes and Installation
Swagelok gaugeable tube fittings are available in tube sizes from 1/16 to 2 in. and 2 to 50 mm. Body materials listed in the catalog include 316 stainless steel, alloy 400, alloy 600, alloy 625, alloy 825, alloy C-276, alloy 2507, 6-Moly, titanium, brass, aluminum, carbon steel, PTFE and PFA, with availability depending on fitting type. Swagelok recommends no intermixing or interchanging of its tube fitting components with those of other manufacturers.
For the initial connection, the tube is fully inserted, the nut is turned finger-tight and then tightened one and one-quarter turns with a wrench. For 1/16, 1/8 and 3/16 in. and 2, 3 and 4 mm fittings, three-quarters of a turn is used. A Swagelok gap inspection gauge confirms sufficient pull-up. Fittings over 1 in./25 mm are installed with ferrules preswaged using a Swagelok multihead hydraulic swaging unit.

The items on this page cover the small-bore components an instrument technician handles most often. Swagelok tube fittings join metric and fractional tubing without threading or welding. Swagelok ball valves are represented by the 40 series, the 40G series one-piece instrumentation ball valve (for example SS-43GS4) and the three-way pattern listed as 40GX. The SS-1RS4 is an integral bonnet needle valve from the 1 series. VCR metal gasket face seal fittings serve high-purity and vacuum lines, QC series quick-connects are used where lines are coupled and uncoupled often, and the KPR series is a pressure-reducing regulator.Where Swagelok components are used
Typical duties are transmitter hook-ups, manifolds and impulse tubing, analyzer shelters and sample conditioning panels, chemical injection skids, gas cylinder panels in laboratories, and test benches. In oil and gas service across the GCC, the usual questions are material grade, pressure rating at temperature and, for sour service, whether the manufacturer offers the item to NACE MR0175 requirements.Ordering Swagelok fittings and valves: what we need
A Swagelok ordering number carries most of the specification. In SS-43GS4, SS is 316 stainless steel, 43G identifies the valve series and size, and S4 is a 1/4 in. Swagelok tube fitting end connection. Send the complete ordering number including any suffix for handle, seat or cleaning option. If you do not have it, give us the tube outside diameter and wall thickness, body material, end connections on each port, working pressure and temperature, and the fluid. For a KPR regulator we also need inlet pressure, the outlet control range and the port configuration.Browse Swagelok products by category: Pipes & Fittings, Regulators, Fittings & Valves.
