3500/60 Temperature Monitor
Description
Overview
The Bently Nevada 3500/60 Temperature Monitor is a six-channel monitor module for the Bently Nevada (Baker Hughes) 3500 Series machinery protection system. It accepts RTD and thermocouple inputs, conditions the signals and compares each measured temperature against user-programmable Alert and Danger setpoints, which the rack uses for alarm and shutdown logic.
The 3500/60 and 3500/61 provide identical functionality, except that the 3500/61 adds a 4–20 mA recorder output for each channel. Measurement type, full-scale range and alarms are set with the 3500 Rack Configuration Software, and the module works alongside other rack modules such as the 3500/22M TDI, 3500/40M Proximitor Monitor and 3500/15 power supply.
Key Features
- Six channels of RTD or thermocouple temperature monitoring per module
- Non-isolated RTD/TC I/O accepts TC, RTD or a mixture of both; isolated TC I/O provides 250 Vdc channel-to-channel isolation
- Alert and Danger setpoints, both over and under, adjustable from 0 to 100 % of full scale
- Programmable alarm time delays
- Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) operation with three adjacent monitors
- Class I Div 2 and ATEX/IECEx Zone 2 approval options

3500/60 Spare Part Numbers and Termination Hardware
The monitor without recorder outputs is ordered as 3500/60-AA-BB, and the 3500/61 follows the same structure while adding a 4 to 20 mA recorder output per channel. The spare main board is 163179-01 (3500/60 Temperature Monitor, without recorders). The 3500/60 rear modules are 133819-01 (RTD/TC Non-Isolated I/O Module, Internal Terminations), 133827-01 (RTD/TC Non-Isolated I/O Module, External Terminations), 133835-01 (TC Isolated I/O Module, Internal Terminations), 133843-01 (TC Isolated I/O Module, External Terminations) and 136711-01 (RTD/TC I/O Module with Internal Barriers and Internal Terminations, not isolated). The 3500/61 equivalents carry the -02 suffix, starting with monitor 163179-02.
External termination blocks are ordered separately: 133908-01 (RTD/TC Non-Isolated, Terminal Strip connectors), 133916-01 (RTD/TC Non-Isolated, Euro Style connectors), 133924-01 (TC Isolated, Terminal Strip connectors) and 133932-01 (TC Isolated, Euro Style connectors). The transducer signal cable to the block is 134544-AAAA-BB in lengths of 0005, 0007, 0010, 0025, 0050 or 0100 feet, with BB set to 01 for not assembled or 02 for assembled. Internal-termination connector headers are 00580442 (9-position), 00580443 (12-position, green), 00502133 (12-position, blue) and 00580444 (15-position).
3500/60 Sensor Ranges, Isolation and Configuration Notes
Sensor type and full-scale range are set per channel in 3500 Rack Configuration Software, and Bently Nevada states that no calibration is required. The non-isolated RTD/TC I/O module can take thermocouples, RTDs or a mixture of both on the same module, while the isolated module is for thermocouples only and provides 250 Vdc between channels. The manufacturer recommends platinum RTDs with an alpha of 0.00385 for all applications. Where external barriers are used, the lower end of every RTD range is limited to -50 °C.
One restriction deserves attention with Type E thermocouples on the isolated I/O modules (options 03 and 04). If the rack runs in an ambient temperature above +35 °C, the usable range narrows to -60 °C to +1000 °C. The configuration software still accepts a setting down to -100 °C, but the system will not work properly in that condition, so it should not be configured that way. Alarm setpoints exist for both over and under conditions, and where the configured full scale is wider than the sensor range, the sensor range limits the setpoint.

A proximity probe measures the gap to the shaft, so it sees shaft movement inside a fluid-film bearing directly. A velocity or acceleration sensor sits on the casing and suits rolling-element bearing machines. Critical turbomachinery usually carries two X-Y probes per bearing, two axial probes for thrust position and a Keyphasor probe for speed and phase.
Where Bently Nevada systems are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bently Nevada racks and probes protect gas turbines, compressors and steam turbines in gas processing, LNG, refining, petrochemical, power and desalination plants. Many installations are 3500 racks that have run for years, so most requests are for like-for-like module, probe, extension cable and proximitor replacements, plus upgrades to newer monitors.
Ordering and replacement: what we need
For probes and proximitors, send the full part number with all option digits (for example 330101-00-27-10-02-05). The digits set the probe length, cable length, connector and approvals, and the probe, cable and proximitor must match in total system length. For 3500 modules, send the module and I/O part numbers from the rack and say whether the I/O is internal or external termination, or barrier type. If a module is obsolete, we quote the replacement that Bently Nevada names and point out any configuration or firmware change.
Facts checked against Baker Hughes Bently Nevada pages and published company history, October 2026.

FAQ
Questions about the 3500/60 Temperature Monitor
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01Q1: Which sensors are supported?
RTDs (e.g., Pt100) and common thermocouples (K/J/E/T…). We’ll confirm per your sensor list.
02Q2: Does it provide protection alarms?
Yes—Alert/Danger with delays/latching feed the rack’s relay logic for trips/interlocks.
03Q3: Can I trend data in System 1?
Yes—temperature values are logged/trended in System 1, enabling correlation with vibration.
04Q4: RTD wiring recommendation?
Use 3-wire or 4-wire RTD wiring for better accuracy and lead compensation.
05Q5: Is the module hot-swappable?
Yes—per site procedures, the 3500/60 can be replaced without powering down the rack.
