Vaisala DMP370 Intrinsically Safe Dew Point Instrument

Description

An intrinsically safe dew point instrument for hydrogen, biomethane and natural gas

The Vaisala DMP370 is a dew point instrument made to be installed directly in explosive atmospheres, gas or dust, without extra enclosures. It is intrinsically safe (Ex i) for up to Zone 0 and Zone 20 under ATEX and IECEx, and carries FM approval for Class I, II and III, Division 1, Groups A to G, T4 for the US and Canada.

It uses the Vaisala DRYCAP sensor with a drift-correction mechanism, so it recovers from high humidity and water spikes. The probes are detachable, which lets a probe be calibrated outside the hazardous area without removing the whole transmitter. Vaisala positions it for hydrogen, biomethane, natural gas, CO2 and biogas moisture control, including electrolysis, fuel cell, biogas upgrading and grid injection applications.

Where it is used

Moisture control is a requirement rather than an option in hydrogen production and drying, CO2 drying, methanization, biogas upgrading, LNG and liquefaction, power-to-gas, fuel cells and gas grid injection. These are the applications Vaisala names in the brochure. For oil and gas, power and industrial gas users in Oman and the GCC, a transmitter that can sit in the hazardous area removes the need for a separate sample line and enclosure in many layouts.

Three installation methods are described: sampling with a pressure regulator and rotameter, in situ in the process pipe, and bypass. Choose the probe type from the process pressure, temperature and available space.

Ordering and what to confirm

The brochure does not list full order codes, so confirm the probe type (DMP371, 374, 375, 377 or 378), cable length, process connection, output configuration and any display or software needs with the manufacturer drawings before ordering. Confirm the process pressure, gas composition and expected dew point range against the -70 to +10 degC Td/f span, and the required hazardous area marking for the site. Documents and quotation

The attached Vaisala brochure (reference B213115EN-A) summarises the DMP370 features, approvals, probe options and applications. It is a brochure, not a full technical datasheet, so detailed electrical and mechanical data should be confirmed from the manufacturer documentation for the selected probe.

About brand

Humidity is hard to measure well, and Vaisala has specialized in it since 1936. The Finnish company makes probes and transmitters for relative humidity, dew point, temperature, pressure and carbon dioxide in industrial processes. Seven Star LLC lists the Vaisala Indigo520 transmitter, HMP7 probe, HMT330 transmitter and DMT152 dew point transmitter, and sources Vaisala instruments for process plants in Oman and the GCC.

Vaisala product families

The Indigo line separates probe and transmitter. The Indigo520 takes two Indigo-compatible probes at once and offers four analog outputs, relays and Ethernet in a metal IP66 enclosure, with or without a touchscreen. The HMP7 humidity and temperature probe is one of the probes that connect to it. The HMT330 is the earlier one-piece humidity and temperature transmitter series, and the DMT152 is a compact transmitter for low dew points in dry gases.

Ordering Vaisala instruments: what we need

Vaisala builds each unit to an order code. Send the full code, or the probe type, cable length, output signals, supply voltage, display option and the certificate type required. For dew point, give the expected range and line pressure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What dew point range does the DMP370 measure?
-70 to +10 degC Td/f, with typical accuracy of +/-2 degC Td/f.
Is the DMP370 intrinsically safe?
Yes, it is Ex i for up to Zone 0 and Zone 20 under ATEX and IECEx, and FM approved for Class I, II, III Division 1.
Which probes are available?
