Brand:

Miller Big Blue 500 Pro Diesel Engine-Driven Welder, 500 A

Description

A 500 A heavy-industrial diesel welder with 20 kW of three-phase power

The Miller Big Blue 500 Pro is the step above the 400 class for heavy construction, structural steel, mining maintenance, process piping and maintenance rigs. It delivers up to 500 A of DC stick or TIG output and wire welding up to 50 V, and its three-phase generator supplies 20,000 W continuous (27,000 W peak) of auxiliary power on the USA model, so grinders, lighting, a second welder or a compressor can run beside the arc.

The processes listed are stick, MIG and flux-cored with a feeder, DC TIG, submerged arc with a suitable head, air carbon arc with 3/8 in carbons, RMD and pulsed MIG on ArcReach models with the ArcReach Smart Feeder, and air plasma cutting or gouging with Spectrum plasma cutters. The Tier 4 Final diesel uses a diesel oxidation catalyst, and Miller states there is no exhaust aftertreatment maintenance on the T4F models.

Operator controls and jobsite features

An electronic engine display on USA models shows fuel level, engine hours, coolant temperature, oil pressure, battery volts and rpm, and tracks oil-change intervals and diagnostics. SunVision digital meters stay readable in direct sun. A 14-pin receptacle with Auto-Remote Sense, Dynamic DIG, Lift-Arc with Auto-Stop and an industrial USB port are standard, and the front panel can be locked with a vandalism lockout kit.

ArcReach lets the operator change amperage, voltage and arc settings from the feeder or the Stick/TIG Remote at the weld joint over the weld cable, with no control cord to damage on a jobsite. The cold weather kit 301482 and a cable holder for up to 200 ft of 2/0 cable are listed accessories.

Ordering and what to confirm before ordering

Printed stock numbers: 907736 (Kubota, USA base model with 240 V three-phase power), 907736001 (USA deluxe with ArcReach, polarity reversing switch and vandalism lockout kit) and 907788 for the Big Blue 500X Pro international model, with Deutz engine, 400 V three-phase power and ArcReach. Field options include the polarity reversing switch kit 301112, remote output panel kit 951850, spark arrestor kit 195012 and the HWY-225 trailer 301338.

Confirm the supply standard (240 V or 400 V three phase), 50 or 60 Hz auxiliary needs, the duty cycle at the arc voltage you weld at, trailer or truck mounting, and the feeder to be paired. For lighter work see the Miller Big Blue 400 PipePro, and browse the full range of Engine-Driven Welders.

How the Miller Big Blue 500 Pro works

A diesel engine drives the welding generator and the auxiliary generator. The generator makes the DC arc power. A second winding supplies AC power for tools. The operator sets the welding process and the amps on the front panel.

About brand

Blue welding machines from Appleton, USA, where Miller has built arc welding equipment since 1929, are a common sight in pipe shops and on construction sites. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Miller welding power sources, engine-driven welders, induction heating systems, MIG guns and auto-darkening helmets for fabricators and contractors in Oman, and checks each model and its input power configuration against the manufacturer's documentation before quoting.

Miller product families listed here

Miller welding machines on this page cover most processes used in plant construction and maintenance:

  • TIG and stick: Dynasty 400 AC/DC and Maxstar 210 STR
  • Multiprocess: XMT 400 ArcReach, XMT 650 and the PipeWorx 400 pipe welding system
  • Engine-driven welders: Trailblazer 330 and Big Blue 800 Duo Pro
  • Induction heating: ProHeat 35
  • Guns and helmets: XR-Aluma-Pro push-pull gun; T94, Classic, Digital Performance, Digital Elite and Digital Infinity helmets

Where Miller equipment is used

An XMT or PipeWorx set suits pipe spools and structural work where one power source must run stick, TIG, MIG and flux-cored procedures. Dynasty machines handle aluminum and stainless TIG. Trailblazer and Big Blue engine drives go where no mains supply exists, such as pipelines, tank erection and remote maintenance in the GCC. The ProHeat 35 is used for preheat and post-weld heat treatment of pipe joints.

Ordering Miller machines and parts: what we need

State the model and the Miller part number of the exact package, because the same machine is sold in several configurations. Give the supply at your site (voltage, phase and 50 Hz), the process and maximum current, and the accessories needed: wire feeder, remote control, cable length, torch or gun, cooler, running gear. For spare parts, the serial number from the rating label is essential, since Miller parts lists are issued by serial number range. For helmets, name the series and lens type.
