The IMI STI SHP is a high-capacity, high-precision digital pneumatic positioner, mainly used as a valve care controller. STI describes it as replacing or substituting the existing FT positioner. Its flow rate, control algorithm and logic are patented by STI and give high dynamic performance with very short stroking times, and it carries on-line and off-line diagnostics.

What the SHP does for large actuators and valve care

The high flow design (supply Cv 2.3, exhaust Cv 2.3) targets fast stroking of large-volume actuators, reducing the need for volume boosters or quick exhaust. The contactless magnetic feedback sensor is resistant to strong, persistent vibration. The positioner manages piston or diaphragm linear actuators and rotary actuators, single or double acting, with a double parameter set for open and close control. Fail safe and, for ATEX certification only, fail freeze (piezo valve and a dedicated 3-way valve) are listed applications.

Monitoring covers an event recorder, counters, event logs, valve life prediction and NE107 system status. Step test, valve signature test and frequency test are available through the remote control software (SHP Remote Control) or an FDI driver, and a graphical interface compares recorded test data. Communication uses 4-20 mA with HART 7, with a USB high-speed serial connection for real-time graphs. A display with push buttons is listed as an option.

Certifications, options and selection

The brochure lists intrinsically safe (Ex ia) and explosion proof (Ex d [ia]) versions to ATEX, IECEx, GOST, SANS, INMETRO, ECASEx, ETL-C, CCoE, KOSHA, CCC, CU TR, UL and UKCA. The certificate that applies depends on the variant ordered. Options include a remote feedback sensor, universal linkage for linear long stroke (70 to 1700 mm) or VDI/VDE 3845 rotary applications, a lever for side yoke or top mounting, display and push buttons, directly mounted gauges and lock-up valve, silenced exhaust, a low bleed version, high corrosion resistance and a fail-in-place version. Software packs add advanced diagnostics, stability control and soft approach to seat.
