The IMI STI FasTrak (FT) smart positioner is a high-capacity, high-precision digital-pneumatic valve controller that replaces conventional positioners. Configuration and calibration are done with a HART device or by self-calibration, and it works with single and double acting actuators, with or without a spring, piston or diaphragm.

High flow, self-calibration and robust housings

The design allows high-speed performance in large-volume actuators without extra amplification such as a booster or quick exhaust. Air capacity is up to 180 Nm3/h at 6 bar (Cv 2.3). Self-calibration works on double acting piston, diaphragm and rotary actuators with or without a spring. Patented adjustable independent control parameters are set for the opening and closing stroke. The positioner is not sensitive to radial and axial external loads caused by mounting and linkages.

IP66 protection and a dedicated exhaust protection system suit installation in harsh environments, including tropical rain, dust, sand and salt. Power comes from the 4-20 mA loop with HART communication, and a 4-20 mA position feedback, two configurable digital inputs for trips and two configurable digital outputs for limit switches or alarms are provided. Dedicated software (RCFT) sets, controls and monitors the positioner. Option Pack 1 adds valve signature and step response diagnostics, and Option Pack 2 adds stability control, soft approach to seat and frequency response analysis.

Approvals, options and what to confirm

The brochure lists intrinsically safe (Ex ia) and explosion proof (Ex d [ia]) versions to ATEX, IECEx, GOST, SANS, INMETRO, ECASEx, AAA, ETL-C, CCoE, KOSHA, CCC, CU TR, CSA-US and UKCA. Options include a remote feedback sensor, universal linkage for linear long-stroke (70 to 1700 mm) or VDI/VDE 3845 rotary use, a lever for side yoke or top mounting, directly mounted gauges and lock-up valve, collected or silenced exhaust, low bleed and fail-in-place versions, a display with push buttons and a high-speed communication kit.

Send the housing material, Ex type and region, actuator type and stroke or rotation, fail action and supply pressure. Note that the SHP brochure describes the SHP as replacing the FT, so confirm availability and the correct successor with the manufacturer if you are specifying new.
