DEUTZ TCD 12.0 V6 Diesel Engine

Description

Overview

The DEUTZ TCD 12.0 V6 brings DEUTZ engineering into the high-output class, delivering 240 to 390 kW and 2130 Nm of torque at 1400 rpm from a compact 90-degree V6. It is aimed at large mobile machinery such as heavy wheel loaders, rigid haulers, mining support equipment, large drilling rigs and high-capacity compressors and pumps. Its V configuration provides almost 12 litres of displacement in a shorter package than an equivalent inline six, and DEUTZ also offers a flat compact version for low engine bays.

Seven Star LLC supplies the DEUTZ TCD 12.0 to contractors, mining and quarry operators, and OEMs in Oman and the GCC. We provide the DEUTZ datasheet with each quotation and offer engineering support in Muscat for configuration, aftertreatment planning and delivery scheduling.

Working Principle

The DEUTZ TCD 12.0 is a water-cooled V6 diesel with turbocharging and charge air cooling, using a 132 mm bore and 145 mm stroke. Fuel is injected by a common rail system controlled by the EMR 4 electronic engine control. In its US Tier 4 configuration, DEUTZ Corporation explains that the engine runs without EGR and meets emissions with dual SCR, which lets the engine produce maximum power and responsiveness with better fuel economy.

Because the Tier 4 version has no DPF to regenerate, maintenance and downtime are minimised. For EU Stage V the datasheet specifies two combined DPF/SCR units as standard. In both cases the aftertreatment is built from the modular DEUTZ DVERT kit, giving machine builders flexible integration options. DEUTZ quotes a best-point fuel consumption of 194 g/kWh on its US product page.

Engineering Design of the DEUTZ TCD 12.0

The 2023 DEUTZ AG datasheet lists a weight of 995 kg and dimensions of 1198 mm length, 948 mm width and 1169 mm height. Maximum nominal speed is 2100 rpm, and the engine idles at a minimum of 1000 rpm according to the same document. Consistent installation and connection dimensions allow machine designs to move between emission stages with limited change.

The DEUTZ TCD 12.0 provides 100% power take-off at flywheel and front end and up to three auxiliary PTO drives with a total torque of up to 520 Nm, which supports large hydraulic systems and cooling fans. The engine shares its architecture with the eight-cylinder TCD 16.0, which extends the same design to 520 kW.

DEUTZ further states that the compact design and customer-friendly accessories reduce installation costs and increase the number of applications, which is significant in a power class where competing engines are often much longer inline units.

Key Features

The DEUTZ TCD 12.0 offers the following documented features for heavy-duty equipment.

  • Power output of 240 to 390 kW at 2100 rpm according to ISO 14396.
  • Maximum torque of 2130 Nm at 1400 rpm from 11.906 litres.
  • Compact 90-degree V6 layout with a flat compact version available.
  • Common rail injection with EMR 4 electronic engine control.
  • Dual SCR (Tier 4) or dual DPF/SCR (Stage V) aftertreatment as standard.
  • EU Stage V, Tier 4f and CN 4 compliance, and HVO certified.
  • Up to three auxiliary PTO drives with a total of up to 520 Nm.
  • Available as a modular, installation-ready power pack.

Industrial Applications

In Oman, the DEUTZ TCD 12.0 fits the heaviest mobile duties: high-pressure compressors supporting well testing and nitrogen services in oil fields, large frac and transfer pumps, primary crushers in limestone and gypsum quarries near Salalah, and big earthmoving machines on port and road projects. Its 2130 Nm torque at 1400 rpm lets equipment hold heavy loads at moderate speed, reducing thermal stress in summer conditions. Where an engine drives a generator, it is typically paired with a controller like the DSE7320 auto mains failure generator controller.

Seven Star LLC supplies the DEUTZ TCD 12.0 across the GCC and supports power projects at every scale, from packaged equipment like the Cummins 312/315 kVA diesel generator set to medium-speed engines such as the Wartsila 20 generating set engine. Our Muscat team helps customers select the right engine class and documentation for tender submissions.

Fuel, Emissions and Service Planning

Unlike the smaller DEUTZ engines that are described as HVO ready, the DEUTZ TCD 12.0 V6 datasheet states that the engine is HVO certified. Hydrotreated vegetable oil is a renewable paraffinic diesel, and certification gives fleet owners documented assurance when they move heavy machines onto lower-carbon fuel, which is increasingly requested in tenders from energy and mining clients.

The aftertreatment layout also shapes service planning. The Tier 4 dual SCR configuration has no particulate filter to regenerate, which DEUTZ Corporation notes results in minimal maintenance and downtime, while the Stage V configuration uses two DPF/SCR units. Owners should therefore confirm early which configuration their machine requires, because it affects packaging, exhaust routing and diesel exhaust fluid logistics on site. For specific aftertreatment ratings, DEUTZ recommends consulting its application engineering, and Seven Star LLC can coordinate that step when quoting the DEUTZ TCD 12.0.

About brand
DEUTZ has built engines in Cologne since 1864, and its compact liquid-cooled diesels sit under the canopy of a great many compressors, pumps, generator sets and construction machines. Seven Star LLC supplies DEUTZ engines and engine parts to equipment owners and packagers in Oman. The listing here follows the current TCD diesel family from the 2.2 liter three-cylinder to the 18 liter six-cylinder, plus the G 2.9 gas engine.

DEUTZ engine families listed here

DEUTZ engine names can be read directly. In TCD 6.1 L6, TCD stands for a turbocharged diesel with charge air cooling, 6.1 is the displacement in liters and L6 means six cylinders in line. A V marks a vee engine, as in TCD 12.0 V6 and TCD 16.0 V8. The engines listed are:
  • Compact engines: TCD 2.2 L3, TCD 2.9 L4, TCD 3.6 L4
  • Mid-range engines: TCD 4.1 L4, TCD 6.1 L6, TCD 7.8 L6
  • Large engines: TCD 12.0 V6, TCD 16.0 V8, TCD 18.0 L6
  • G 2.9 L4 for LPG and gasoline
Electronic parts are listed as well, such as the CMPS power supply and CAN bus module 1247 0960KZ.

Where DEUTZ engines are used

Typical DEUTZ applications are generator sets, mobile air compressors, pump sets, material handling and construction equipment, agricultural machines and auxiliary drives. In the oil and gas fields of the GCC they are common in rental power, well service units and dewatering pumps, where a machine builder has selected the engine and the owner later needs a like-for-like unit or parts.

Ordering DEUTZ engines and parts: what we need

The same displacement is built in many variants, so the engine type alone is not enough. Send a photo of the engine nameplate with the engine type and engine serial number. For a new engine add the rated power and speed, the emission stage required for your site, the application (genset at fixed speed or variable-speed drive), cooling arrangement and flywheel housing. For parts, give the DEUTZ part number where you have it. We check the data against DEUTZ documentation and provide the manufacturer's datasheet on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the key ratings of the DEUTZ TCD 12.0 V6?
The DEUTZ AG datasheet lists 240 to 390 kW at 2100 rpm and a maximum torque of 2130 Nm at 1400 rpm. Displacement is 11.906 litres from six cylinders in a 90-degree V arrangement.
Why does the DEUTZ TCD 12.0 use a V layout?
