Cummins C1000D5B 1000 kVA Diesel Generator Set

Description

Overview

The Cummins C1000D5B is a megawatt-class 50 Hz diesel generator set from Cummins Power Generation, rated 1000 kVA (800 kW) for standby, 900 kVA (720 kW) for prime power and 900 kVA for data center continuous duty. It is the current B-suffixed version of the long-running C1000D5 model and is built around the KTA38-G14, a 12-cylinder Vee engine that Cummins describes as one of the most robust and cost-effective diesels in its power range. It is offered for Africa and the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Europe and other regions.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Cummins C1000D5B to EPC contractors, utilities, hospitals, industrial plants and data centre developers in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. From Muscat we coordinate configuration, documentation and site requirements so that the set arrives matched to its role.

Operating Principle

The KTA38-G14 uses Cummins’ own low-pressure PT fuel system, with a wear-compensating pump and an integral dual-flyweight governor. Fuel lines are drilled through the cylinder heads rather than run as external pipes, and camshaft-actuated unit injectors meter and time each injection. This mechanical approach is famous for tolerating difficult climates and inconsistent fuel, which is one reason the KTA38 family is common across the region.

Exhaust energy drives a top-mounted Cummins Turbo Technologies turbocharger, and a large-capacity aftercooler delivers cooler, denser intake air for more efficient combustion and lower internal stresses. The engine spins a Stamford S6L1DE4 alternator at 1500 rpm, and a PowerCommand 3.3 controller provides the digital governing, voltage regulation, protection and paralleling functions that large installations require.

Engineering Design of the Cummins C1000D5B

The KTA38-G14 is a four-cycle, 60-degree Vee, turbocharged and aftercooled engine with twelve cylinders, a 159 mm bore and stroke and a displacement of 37.8 litres. The alloy cast iron block carries removable wet liners and cross-bolted main bearing caps for added stiffness. A gear-driven centrifugal water pump and large coolant passages give even cooling around liners, valves and injectors, while spin-on corrosion resistors control rust and acidity in the coolant.

As a G-Drive Coolpac, the engine is supplied with a 1-pump, 1-loop cooling system holding 210 litres of coolant, rated for a 50 °C limiting ambient. Lube oil capacity is 135 litres, the starting system is 24 V, and dual spin-on fuel filters with water separation protect the injectors. The engine and cooling package alone measure about 3.39 m long and weigh 4990 kg dry, so foundations and lifting plans should be prepared early.

  • Engine fuel use of about 209 L/h at full prime load and 113 L/h at half load, supporting accurate tank sizing.

Industrial Applications

In Oman the Cummins C1000D5B is sized for hospitals, airports, large malls, data centres and government complexes where a single set or a paralleled bank must carry the entire site. It also serves as prime or backup power in cement plants, mining operations, fish processing facilities in Duqm and Salalah, and port and logistics hubs in Sohar, where outages carry high production costs.

Oil and gas operators use units of this class for central processing facility emergency power, camp power plants and temporary production support. Projects that standardise on smaller Cummins sets, such as the Cummins 312/315 kVA diesel generator set, often add a Cummins C1000D5B for the main building. Seven Star LLC supplies the Cummins C1000D5B across Oman and the GCC and supports synchronisation and control requirements, including replacement parts like the Cummins 300-6314-01 PowerCommand display-control assembly.

Paralleling and Site Planning

Because the PowerCommand 3.3 control supports paralleling, two or more Cummins C1000D5B units can share a common bus for N+1 redundancy, which is the usual arrangement in hospitals and data centres. Buyers should plan for fuel storage, exhaust routing, acoustic treatment and cable sizing at an early stage, and should allow for the substantial airflow needed by the radiator in a 50 °C environment. Our engineers can review these points with your consultant before the order is placed.

About brand
Diesel power is the first thing associated with Cummins, founded in 1919 and headquartered in Columbus, Indiana, USA. The company builds engines, complete generator sets and the controls and components around them. Seven Star LLC lists Cummins diesel generator sets, a generator-drive engine and engine and control spare parts, and supplies them to contractors and facility operators in Oman against the model, specification and part numbers on the equipment.

Cummins equipment on this page

The generator sets listed are the C150D5 at 150 kVA, the C275D5 at 275 kVA, a set in the 312/315 kVA class and the C1000D5B at 1000 kVA. In the Cummins naming, the number after C is the nominal kVA rating and D5 marks a diesel set for 50 Hz. The QSK60-G4 is a 16-cylinder engine for generator drive. Spare parts are listed by Cummins part number: head gasket set 4011502, starter motor 3283330, fuel injection pump 3937025 and the PowerCommand display and control assembly 300-6314-01. A generator controller page for auto mains failure duty is also listed.

Where Cummins generator sets are used

Standby power for hospitals, towers, data rooms and pumping stations; prime power on construction camps, remote oilfield sites and quarries; and paralleled sets for larger loads. High ambient temperature and dust are normal design conditions for sets working in the GCC, so cooling package and enclosure choices deserve attention at the inquiry stage.

Ordering Cummins parts: what we need

For engine parts send the engine serial number (ESN) and model from the engine dataplate, together with the part number if you have it. For generator set parts and controls send the genset model, specification letter and serial number from the set nameplate. For a complete set tell us the kVA rating and duty (standby or prime), voltage and frequency, open or enclosed build, the site ambient temperature and altitude, and the transfer switch or paralleling requirement.
