Brand: Cla-Val
Cla-Val 100-01 Hytrol Hydraulic Diaphragm Main Valve
Description
A hydraulically operated main valve for automatic control
The Cla-Val 100-01 Hytrol is a diaphragm-actuated, hydraulically operated valve in globe or angle pattern. It has three major components: the body, the diaphragm assembly and the cover. The diaphragm assembly is the only moving part and is guided at the top and bottom by a precision-machined stem. A resilient synthetic rubber disc, held on three and a half sides by a disc retainer, seals drip-tight against a renewable seat when pressure is applied above the diaphragm.
Cla-Val describes the 100-01 as the basic valve used in nearly all of its automatic control valves. Pressure reducing, rate of flow, solenoid, level and check functions are created by adding a pilot system to this same body, so the 100-01 is also what many buyers need as a replacement or as a plain on-off isolating valve operated from line pressure.

How the Hytrol opens, closes and modulates
The valve works from line pressure alone. When the cover chamber is relieved to a zone of lower pressure, inlet pressure lifts the diaphragm assembly and the valve opens fully. When inlet pressure is applied to the cover chamber, the valve closes drip-tight. If the operating pressures above and below the diaphragm are equal, the valve holds an intermediate position, and a modulating pilot can then make it follow changes in line pressure automatically.
The standard fluid is water up to 180 °F. Optional suffixes change the construction: KB for Viton rubber parts (up to 250 °F; not with epoxy coating above 175 °F), KC for NSF/ANSI 61 fusion-bonded epoxy, KD for the Dura-Kleen self-cleaning stem, KG for a Delrin-sleeved stem, KH for a heavy spring, KO for anti-cavitation trim and KW for water-treatment clearance.
Selecting a Hytrol size and variant
Size the valve from the flow coefficient and the pressure drop that the system can accept. For a globe pattern, Cv is 54 at 2 in, 115 at 3 in, 200 at 4 in, 440 at 6 in, 770 at 8 in, 1,725 at 12 in and 3,130 at 16 in, with larger values up to 14,020 at 36 in (gpm at 1 psi differential). The valve should be installed with the cover up in horizontal pipe where possible, with isolation valves on the inlet and outlet and enough space above it to service the diaphragm.
The models below all use this body, so the 100-01 is the reference when a station drawing shows a pilot-controlled valve and only the main valve needs replacing.
| Model built on the 100-01 | Function |
|---|---|
| 90-01 | Pressure reducing |
| 40-01 | Rate of flow control |
| 136-01 | Solenoid on-off control |
| 81-02 | No-slam check |
Documents and quotation
The Cla-Val engineering data sheet E-100-01 is attached to this page, with dimensions for threaded, flanged and grooved ends. Before ordering, confirm the pattern, end connection, pressure class, body and trim materials, rubber compound and any suffix options; for temperatures above 180 °F or fluids other than water, ask for a material check. Request a quotation through the RFQ form and give the size and pilot function if the valve is part of a control assembly. More valves of this type are listed under Control Valves.

About brand
Cla-Val is an American manufacturer of automatic control valves, founded in 1936 and headquartered in Costa Mesa, California. The company introduced the industry's first hydraulic actuated globe valve in the late 1930s and today builds hydraulically operated, diaphragm-actuated main valves with pilot control systems for pressure, flow, level and pump control.
Control valve and air valve range
The range is built around the Hytrol 100-01 main valve. Pilot systems on that body create pressure reducing and sustaining valves such as the 90-01 and 92-01, rate of flow valves, solenoid valves, pump control valves, check valves, and altitude and level control valves. Cla-Val also lists air release and vacuum valves and silent or two-door wafer check valves, each with an engineering data sheet that gives sizes, materials and pilot ranges.
Markets and materials
Cla-Val addresses waterworks, fueling, marine, mining and industrial applications. Its data sheets state that valves are manufactured in more than 50 different alloys, with ductile iron, cast steel and bronze as the standard body materials and fusion-bonded epoxy coating as an option.
Sourcing through Seven Star LLC
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and quotes Cla-Val valves against the model number, size, pressure class, materials and pilot settings shown in the data sheet.

Frequently Asked Questions
It is a hydraulically operated, diaphragm-actuated globe or angle valve that opens or closes on line pressure and is the main valve in most Cla-Val automatic control valves.
Globe pattern is listed from 3/8 to 36 inch with threaded, flanged or grooved ends; angle pattern is listed from 1 to 24 inch. Check the datasheet table for each size and end type.
Ductile iron, cast steel and bronze are listed. Recommended maximum pressure ranges from 225 to 285 psi for 150 class flanges and 400 psi for 300 class, grooved and threaded ends.
The KO suffix adds anti-cavitation trim, a stainless steel radial slotted disc guide and seat, for service with high pressure differential across the valve.
The datasheet lists -40 to 180 degrees F. Viton rubber parts (suffix KB) are listed for applications up to 250 degrees F, but not with epoxy coating above 175 degrees F.
