Air Torque actuator series

The core pneumatic line is Edition 2010, a rack and pinion design with torque output up to 10,000 Nm. Above it, the Heavy Duty scotch yoke actuators reach 60,000 Nm. The manufacturer lists several executions of the pneumatic actuator, identified by letters such as A, P, E and EC, and a stainless steel version. Electric actuators up to 2,400 Nm complete the program.

How do I identify an Air Torque actuator from its label?
The label gives the type code, such as DRSC00060U, the execution letter and a serial number. The code carries the actuator size and the function. Send it exactly as printed along with a photo, and for spring return units count or state the springs per side if the label shows it.
What decides the size of a rack and pinion actuator?
The valve torque including the safety factor the valve maker recommends, the minimum air pressure available at the actuator, and whether the unit is double acting or spring return. A spring return actuator needs more size for the same valve because part of the air torque is spent compressing the springs.
When is a scotch yoke actuator used instead of rack and pinion?
Rack and pinion actuators in the Edition 2010 line reach 10,000 Nm. For larger valves the manufacturer offers Heavy Duty scotch yoke actuators up to 60,000 Nm. The valve torque curve and the available air pressure decide which design fits.
