Phoenix Contact UT 16 Feed-Through Terminal Block, 76 A
Description
UT 16: 76 A feed-through block for the largest UT cables
The UT 16 is the top of the common UT feed-through range described here. It carries 76 A at 1000 V and accepts conductors from 1.5 to 25 mm², with 16 mm² as the nominal cross section. It replaces lugs and busbars in small to medium distribution where a rail-mounted solution is wanted.
The name follows the family code: UT for universal terminal, 16 for the 16 mm² nominal cross section. Order number 3044199 is the gray version; other colours of the same block exist under their own order numbers. Seven Star LLC supplies the UT 16 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

Mechanics of the M5 clamp in the UT 16
The clamp uses an M5 screw tightened to 2.5 to 3 Nm, the highest torque in the UT range covered on this page. Such a joint needs a proper screwdriver with a full-size blade and steady pressure. Strand compression is much higher than on small terminals, so using a ferrule or compressed conductor end gives the lowest contact resistance.
The power dissipation of 2.43 W at nominal condition is also the largest in the series. Over a full row the heat adds up, and in a closed outdoor cabinet it affects the allowed load current, so apply the temperature derating given by the manufacturer.
Where the UT 16 fits in a terminal row
The UT 16 serves as the main feeder terminal in compact panels: it takes the incoming cable on one side and a smaller group of UT 4, UT 6 or UT 10 blocks on the other through a bridge. Where several outgoing circuits share one supply, plug-in bridges can fan out the supply and the UT 16 acts as the only large connection point.
It can also be used for the secondary side of power supplies and battery chargers when output currents are up to several tens of amperes.
Selection and ordering checklist for the UT 16
- Current per block below 76 A with margin and derating.
- Conductor size from 1.5 to 25 mm².
- Ferrule or lug type for stranded cable.
- Rail type and space needed for the wider block.
- Cover and partition plates for each end of the row.
- Packing unit quantity.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the UT 16
Strip the conductor to the length shown on the data sheet, fit a ferrule where flexible cable is used, and tighten at 2.5 to 3 Nm. Because heavy conductors transfer cable strain to the terminal, support the cable with a clamp near the block.
During operation, inspect for signs of heating on circuits at high load, and re-torque after shutdowns as part of the maintenance plan.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and the GCC the UT 16 is seen in generator and transformer auxiliary panels, outdoor distribution boxes for lighting and pumping, and battery rooms at substations. The ability to take 25 mm² cable simplifies feed connections in many compact enclosures.
Sites with large temperature swings need regular checks of heavy joints because repeated expansion and contraction can loosen a clamp.
Practical design notes for the UT 16
A UT 16 row is usually short, and that is a design advantage. Because a single block carries up to 76 A, the number of terminals for a main feed is small, but each block releases 2.43 W at nominal condition. Three blocks for three phases therefore add around 7 W to the cabinet, which is modest, yet a loose clamp on any of them can create far more heat locally than the figure suggests.
For this reason the joint quality matters more than the part itself. Use a calibrated screwdriver or torque tool at 2.5 to 3 Nm, check that no strands escape the clamp and keep a photograph or note of the finished joint for the commissioning file. Where the cable is stiff 25 mm² stranded copper, a compressed ferrule gives a more reliable joint than loose strands, and the cable should be tied back to a support so that vibration does not pass to the clamp.
The wide rail footprint of the larger blocks also needs checking. Confirm the length of rail needed for the number of blocks, the end clamps and the covers, and leave a small reserve so that a later circuit can be added without moving the whole row.

About brand
Phoenix Contact is a German, family-owned manufacturer of electrical connection technology and industrial automation, founded in 1923 in Essen by Hugo Knümann. It began as a sales company, and in 1928 Knümann developed the modular terminal block mounted on a rail, the product the company is still best known for. Phoenix Contact is headquartered in Blomberg, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Seven Star LLC lists Phoenix Contact surge protection, power supplies and safety relays, and sources these components by order number for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need
Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.
Facts checked against Phoenix Contact's own company history (phoenixcontact.com), October 2026.
