16503.0-00 is the STEGO LP 165 loop PTC enclosure heater rated 100 W, for 120 to 240 V AC or DC. It measures 167 x 42 x 121 mm, weighs 500 g, uses three pressure clamps and clips to a DIN rail.

A universal-voltage convection heater for AC and DC enclosures

The LP 165 is a convection heater built around a PTC element, so its output falls as it warms, which limits surface heat. A wide 120 to 240 V AC and DC input means a single article can serve different mains voltages and DC supplies.

The datasheet states protection class I and IP20, an operating range of -45 to +70 C, and an inrush current of 6 A. Heating capacity is measured at +20 C ambient.

STEGO describes the LP 165 as a compact loop heater based on PTC heating elements for casings with electrical or electronic installations. The anodised aluminium profile in loop design creates an optimised chimney effect for safe temperature control, and installation and wiring are quick thanks to clip fixing and pressure clamps. The datasheet also lists worldwide approvals.

Pick the wattage from the cabinet heat loss and the lowest ambient temperature. The 60, 75, 100 and 150 W articles share one housing family, so the choice is by capacity only.

The 120-240 V AC/DC input removes the need for separate 120 V and 230 V variants, but a thermostat such as the KTO 111 (11100.0-00) must still be rated for the supply you use.

Installation and operation notes

Clip onto a DIN rail and connect to the pressure clamps. The STEGO connection example shows a pre-wired cable with L, N and PE and a KTO 111 thermostat in series.

Leave free air space around the heater for convection, and do not place heat-sensitive parts directly above it. Confirm all values against the current datasheet.

The chimney effect of the loop profile depends on free vertical airflow, so mount the heater upright with the connection at the bottom. Keep cables, cable ducts and other devices away from the open loops, and keep the air path clear above and below the heater.

Outdoor switchgear, meter boxes, solar and battery DC cabinets, and telecom shelters that need anti-condensation heat on mixed AC and DC supplies.

DC-powered cabinets, such as solar installations, benefit from the DC capability of the PTC element.

The heater body is an anodised aluminium profile in loop design and the connection case is black plastic to UL94 V-0. Operating and storage humidity are stated up to 90 % RH, and the unit works from -45 to +70 C, so it suits unheated outdoor cabinets in both desert heat and cold mountain sites. The three pressure clamps accept 0.5 to 1.5 mm2 stranded wire with ferrule or 0.5 to 2.5 mm2 rigid wire, and a PTC element limits its own temperature as it warms.

Selection and maintenance notes

Heater output is chosen from the enclosure surface area, the lowest expected ambient temperature and the inside temperature needed to stay above the dew point. The wide AC and DC input of the LP 165 makes it useful where the same heater is installed in enclosures with different supply voltages, such as solar sites, telecom cabinets and battery rooms, reducing the number of spare parts.

In the region, heaters are used mainly against condensation in humid coastal areas and in outdoor enclosures that cool at night. Control the heater with a thermostat or hygrostat so it runs only when needed. Mount it low in the enclosure with space above and below for air circulation, and keep heat-sensitive parts and cables away from it.

Where several enclosures share one design, the same heater and controller combination can be repeated across the site, which keeps spare parts simple for maintenance teams.
