Deye SUN-6K-SG04LP1-EU 6 kW Single-Phase Hybrid Inverter, 48 V

Description

The Deye SUN-6K-SG04LP1-EU is the 6 kW model of Deye’s compact single-phase hybrid inverter for 48 V batteries. It combines two MPP trackers, a 135 A battery port and a backup output in a 17 kg wall unit that the datasheet rates below 30 dB(A). It is the natural choice for a home or small shop that wants solar, a battery and an outage backup without a bulky cabinet.

A small footprint for home storage

At 6 kW the unit covers the typical household: air conditioning, a water heater, a pump and the kitchen at once. The inverter charges the battery from PV first, runs the house from solar and battery, and falls back to the grid. During a mains failure the load port keeps essential circuits alive. A generator can be connected for long outages, and the quiet natural-and-fan cooling means it can hang in a utility room or garage without being a nuisance.

What the datasheet lists

  • A colour touch LCD and IP65 enclosure.
  • AC coupling for an existing PV inverter.
  • Parallel operation of up to 16 units, with several batteries.
  • Six charge and discharge time slots.
  • Storage of diesel generator energy.

Technical specification

The datasheet covers four ratings plus a 24 V variant of the 3 kW. Compare the models first, then read the shared values.

Why the 6K and not the 5K

The two share the enclosure and the battery range, so the difference is 1 kW of AC power and about 1.6 kW of PV capacity. The 6K draws 30 A at maximum, so the load cabling and breaker must follow its row in the manual rather than the 3 kW row. If the site has a single 40 A feeder, remember that the manual recommends 40 A breakers on the grid and load ports for the whole 3 to 6 kW range.

Wiring points from the manual

Battery cable for the 6 kW model is 0 AWG (50 mm2) tightened to 5.2 Nm, with a separate DC protector next to the battery. AC cable is 8 AWG (6 mm2) at 1.2 Nm, and the PV cable is 12 AWG (2.5 mm2). The manual asks for about 50 cm of clearance at the side, above and below, avoidance of humidity above 95%, and a CT on the grid conductor for the zero-export modes. For parallel systems it requires the zero-export-to-CT mode.

Gulf residential use

Villa roofs in the region get very hot, and wall space in a garage is warm too. Choose the coolest shaded wall available, keep the clearances in the manual and plan the battery in the same ventilated room. With a 6 kW rating the unit pairs well with a single 48 V rack battery and the time-of-use slots help move consumption away from peak periods.

Quick sizing arithmetic

The 6 kW model draws 135 A from a 48 V battery at full output, roughly 6.5 kW of battery power, so the battery side matches the AC side closely. A 9600 W rated PV input against 6000 W of AC gives a ratio of 1.6. The unit weighs 17 kg and measures 330 x 433 x 228 mm, small enough for a closet or garage wall. Because the noise figure is under 30 dB(A), it can sit near living space.

Selection and installation notes

A hybrid inverter is selected from the PV array voltage and power, the battery voltage and chemistry, the backup load and the grid connection. Check that the string open-circuit voltage at the lowest site temperature stays below the input limit, that the battery is on the maker approved list with the right communication cable, and that the backup loads fit the rated output. Install in a shaded, ventilated place with the clearances on the data sheet, use DC isolators and surge protection, and have the grid settings approved by the local utility before connection.
